N/s switch is on the right side of the transmission (passenger side) It costs about $200. There is an eight wire plug up on the same side of the firewall near the trans dipstick. If you jump across the two center terminals opposite the plug latch (not on the same side as latch), you will bypass the switch. If it starts, then you have three options: remove the switch and replace it with new, used or take it apart and lightly sand all connections inside. Internal parts can fall out when taking it apart so be careful not to let this happen. The hardest part is getting it off the transmission (I use lots of wd40 careful rocking and pulling as well as patience.) You can find r&r instructions in most repair manuals. In an emergency, you can just jump the wires and use a toggle switch but then, engine will start in any gear as long as the switch is "on" DANGEROUS.

when a car does not crank what do we do. (easy to hard just like AAA tow does)
  1. i wiggle key, at start position, crank now.?
  2. i wiggle the shifter, in park, and crank (PRNDL switch issues)
  3. same but move shifter to neutral, (keyon, foot on brake shift to neutral and crank, cranks now? neutral contacts good park bad.

click 93 jeep, click wiring. pdf page 64 shows your relay.
see that the fuses need to be good
and the PRNDL switch energizes the starter relay.
the PRNDL ground the relay coil , the coil gets power from the Ign. switch and RELAY pin 29 goes to 12v cranking (11v typ) and the starter cranks.
that is how it all works.
if you have a volt meter all this is super easy, and no guessing needed. ever.
if you buy a new relay and it dont fix it ,you will be back here.

94 jeep cherokee will not turn over

Bad neutral safety switch, starter relay, starter fuse or bad ignition switch. You will have to check each of those things to find what's keeping the current from reaching the starter, when you try cranking.

Bad solenoid i would guess. Not making a connection there. Any basic wiring and ignition switch problems should be alleviated by jumping the starter with a screwdriver. I would check the solenoid and starter brushes

Try gently tapping the starter motor with a hammer or bar. There may be a bad contact in the sollenoid or the starter motor brushes worn to their limit. Tapping may give you a tempory fix if the problem lies in the starter motor.

Wont turn over when key is turned

If you can turn the engine by hand, it has not locked. If it did, you would get an engagement noise from starter, but it would not turn. I'd look at the neutral safety switch (automatic) or clutch switch (stick vehicles) and ignition switch, starter relay (usually in the power distribution box near the battery) Also any related fuses for start system if in there.Likely you will find that no power is getting to the small wire on the starter solenoid.

94 jeep cherokee has no power at the starter.when key is turned

Check neutral safety switch... On automatic AW4 transmission it's on the passenger side, directly across from gear selector shaft. The two inner terminals on the side opposite the clip lever on the harness connector are the ones that operate starter. If you jump across these you should get voltage baqck to the small wire on the starter solenoid.(trigger) The switch itself is about $200, but can be rebuilt or replaced with a salvage yard part cheaply. Get a manual fro removal, and follow them carefully. PS: connector is up near ;the trans dipstick!
