How do you know about the fuel here, I'd suspect you have a defective fuel pump. The pressure should be tested at the test port on the engine injector fuel supply rail, you will need to buy or borrow a special gauge to test the pressure.
BACK FIRING AND HARD STARTING COULD BE CAUSED BY LOW FUEL PRESSURE CAUSED BY WORN FUEL PUMP.STOP UP FUEL FILTER AND STOPPED UP FUEL INJECTORS.IF ALL IS GOOD LOOK FOR VACUUM LEAKS AT INTAKE HOSES AND INTAKE MANIFOLD.WORN VALVES WILL CAUSE MISSING AND BACKFIRING.
I would start by checking your ignition system, mainly the ignition coil. Sometimes when they get hot they fail and when they cool down they work properly. I would also check to see if the fuel pump may be overheating as well. Connect a fuel pressure guage to the system and watch the fuel pressure after you drive it. When it starts to act up if the fuel pressure goes wild you will have your answer.
If the engine wants to stall as you accelerate, and sometimes cuts out at highway speeds,...Its the fuel pump,If it misses at idle, and while driving, its the fuel filter,Have the fuel presure checked,or change the fuel filter, when you change the fuel pump, also ghange the fuel filter.
service engine light must be present with that description!!!!! if so time to stop the GUE$$ work and invest in a OBD 2 scan tool retrieve fault codes and repair it rite first time around.I would also be interested to see how that ignition coil behaves when it warms up get that tested!!!!if you haven't a OBD tool or spark tester invest save large.John
