Question about 1995 Pontiac Bonneville

1 Answer

1995 Bonneville I have a '95 bonneville that was shutting off on me randomly, I replace the crank position sensor, it fixed the problem. Then the car would sputter and lose power while driving, took it to the dealship and they told me fuel pump, I replaced that and it ran fine for a few days. Now suddenly I would be driving it , and when going uphill it would lose power or shut off. It would start but when i rev the engine over 4k RPM's the traction control light and check engine light would come on and the RPM would drop suddenly. I went out this morning and tried to start the car, nothing happened, it turned over a few times and did not start. Then when I turned the key, absolutely nothing happened, no lights, no crank, no anything, tried to jump it......nothing. I have a remote starter/door locks. They also do not work, i've checked all fuses and they appear to be alright. Please help me, i've spent over 2 thousand dollars on this car and would hate to have to junk it over something small.

The problem is probably one of the battery cables. check for looseness and corrosion. especially at the positive battery connection where the two cables are stacked.

Could be crank sensor , ignition module and i wouldn't rule out the PCM . But before you start replacing parts test these componets . If you don't have diagnostic skills or a lab scope i suggest you take to a qualified repair shop that does . Hall effect cam crank sensor operation and testing Part 1 an SD Premium...

My 1995 Pontiac Bonneville will turn over and start but always dies. Already replaced fuel filter and the fuel pump seems to be working but the car will not stay started. Checked the gas release on fuel...

crank position sensor...if the engine will start and run for a second or two then it dies. If, however, you can press and hold the gas pedal slightly and keep the engine going, then I would suspect the IAC-idle air control valve. This can be cleaned with spray carb cleaner.

My '95 Bonneville is running rough and idling low and is shutting off and is very hard to crank

This probably is the mass air flow censor located just behind the air cleaner in the metal part of the throttle body. Wiggle the connector if it stumbles or shuts off the connection inside the censor is bad. You will need to replace the censor.

95 Bonneville won't start when hot

Yes I know, but If you hold the accelerator pedal to the floor on a fuel injected car, the Throttle position sensor will tell the computer to enter clear flood mode. Then the computer will shut off the fuel injectors while you have the pedal to the floor. If it is flooded, you should be able to get it started in clear flood.
