1996 GMC Jimmy 4.3ltr 4X4, the fan blower seems to work when it wants to. I had traced the wiring and cant find any problems in the wiring. The thermostat is only a few months old with a brand new engine all fluids are new as well. when I start the jimmy the heat works sometimes.. one minute it works fine as long as its working when the truck was started.. however there are times when I would start it and nothing happens.I would drive it down the road and back turn off the truck and try to restart it and sometimes it comes back on... What Gives..? anyone get this figured out?

I also have a 1996 Jimmy 4WD and it also only works when it feels like it. Sometimes it works when starting and if turned off and restarted it doesn't or it doesn't work at first and then occasionaly it will come on after driving for a bit, and sometimes doesn't come on at all.

The problem is usually with the motor itself. If the blower will not come on, tap it with a hard object to see if it works. If it does, the problem is in the motor and it needs to be replaced. Many times it is a result of weak springs holding the brushes to the armature commutator.

Check to make sure your wires are connected if so you may need to replace the blower motor

I noticed:
Fan motor would not run same time as "2H" lite was out.
Not sure if these are related, mite be coincidence, but:
This is either a blown fuse, a loose fuse, dirty or destroyed contacts behind the fuse, or a loose/inttermittent ground/wire.

SOURCE: How to uninstall a blower motor on a 1999 GMC JIMMY

Yeah if you have to tap on it, then that means the brushes in the motor are worn out and you need to replace it. The blower motor is behind the PCM and Coolant Overflow bottle. If you remove these then it will give you better access to motor. You'll have to cut around housing. There should be a groove already there for you, just make sure you don't cut all the way around it. Once you open it and get the new one installed, you'll have to use caulk to seal where you cut it at.

The fan for the heater stops blowing air. it only works when it wants to. what do you think

Could be a bad connection or the blower motor going bad, next time it does it, tap on the blower motor, if it comes on, check the connection, if good replace blower motor, hope this was very helpful.

I have a 1999 Jimmy that the blower motor only works on 3 and 4. Replaced the blower motor and still do not have 1 or 2.. Where do I go from here?

you need to replace a part called the blower motor resistor. it is located behind the blower motor, it looks like a wide slot inserted into the ductwork, and is retained by 2 screws. very common problem, and available at any parts store. good luck!

Blower on heater works sometimes, sometimes it doesnt. Can be driving down the road and it suddenly starts blowing. What could be the problem? A short in the wiring? Blower motor going out? Blower level...

Sounds like the blower resistor. It will either be located in the engine compartment outside the motor or inside the vehicle inside the blower motor cover. It could also as well be selector switch
