Question about 1997 Plymouth Voyager

1 Answer

Transmission dripping About three weeks ago, I had to slam on my breaks and I locked up my tires. Well when I put my foot back on the gas I heard a thunk that sounded like it came from my transmission. I dove it home and it drove fine. The next day I noticed transmission fluid under the van. I was wondering what the sound was. Also was wondering are there any hoses that run from the back of the transmission. I found two hoses that come out of the front of the transmissions that seem to go to the radiator. Also was wondering what is the possibility of a seal going bad during the slamming on the breaks. Also would like to note that the transmission shifts fine, it just drips it leaves drips about the size of a dime when it's parked

Those hose are to go to your cooling tank in radiator they are a return line maybe they blew off on the sudden break slam? they are rubber line? if so to small clamps the size of a dime hold them on but you should be pissing transmission fluid out with those hoses off did you check your fluid level?

the noise in the rear is the fuel pump, it is not bad if you hear it as long as it is not very loud.
the slamming gears can be from the kick down cable (passing gear) may be disconnected from the throttle body or bent

Abs light just came on. Is it an immediate safety problems?

No not at all. ABS issues will not leave you on the side of the road stranded, will not cause your engine any problems. When the ABS light comes on, it basically deactivates your anti lock brake system, giving you the same brakes we had back in the day before technology came into cars. You will not notice a loss in stopping power and your brakes will not be affected. Before the light, if you were to slam on your breaks, your tires would lock up for a split second then release, then lock, then release, keeping you from going into an uncontrollable slide. Now if you slam on the brakes, they will lock up and stay locked up until you ease your foot off the brake pedal....don't slam on the brakes. :-) Not saying you shouldn't get it fixed because it is a good safety feature to have for those who do panic and stand on the brakes. But you don't have to make it a top priority fix if budget doesn't allow for it.

From a complete stop when I press the gas my car revvs for 1 second or less and then **** and accelerate. It happens randomly. What could this be?

there may be what is called a detent cable that needs adjusting. I had this issue on a 1990 model long ago. it also caused the cars transmission to hit really hard when I would slow down and then put on the gas again. it felt like it may have been in the process of downshifting when I put on the gas again so it slammed back into the appropriate gear. see if this helps.
