Hi if you are certain that both pads on each caliper are new/in good contition? and this noise you say is metal to metal? occures when you brake ?? one other possibility could be that one of your front wheel bearings may have excessive wear ? this would allow the disc/rotor to tilt/move to make contact with the caliper carrier when you brake and rhe caliper piston pushes pad to disc and will give sound you hear? also look at rotor for any shining on edges ove both surfaces ? if you raise each wheel in turn and check for undue tilt top to bottom of wheel when rocked a wheel bearing worne would show ? hope this also helps?

Either you have a caliper that has locked up and worn brakes down or it is just the metal that is in your pads making that noise. does it pull to either side when driving?

I have an 08 Avalanche. Having a severe grinding noise when coming to a stop in front. My brake pads are fairly new. Just started on Thursday. Sounds horrible now. What could it be.

Hi Benjamin:
I'd be getting the brakes checked (or actually check them myself).
That involves getting the vehicle jacked up, removing the wheels, and visually inspecting the brake pads and discs.
PLEASE! This is a safety issue and you NEED good brakes.

Don't delay/ Get them checked.
Best to you.

My cadillac sts 2005 right front wheel squeeks going down the road whether I am braking or not. Do I need a new brake job? Lynda

I don't think that you need new brakes. When you hear squeaking, that usually means that your brake pads are getting worn down and metal is grinding on metal. Check your brake pads before you do anything else.

It could well be in need of new brake pads however this would be noticable more when you apply the brakes if the sound is in the rear its not the front brakes it could also be your wheel hub bearings are past there used by date its a serious problem and needs attension right away

Front brakes drag (more on left than right) while driving in rush hour stop-and-go traffic. Both rims get hot the left more than the right. Also have some steering wheel vibration and brake pedal pulsing....

Sounds like the pads are completely worn or either crystallized. The crystallized happens when the brakes get hot and cool water hits them, this will also warp the rotors. With the brakes pulsating, it may be the rotors are warped and have worn the brake pads uneven. I would have the rotors checked when buying new pads and if they are warped, buy new ones. If their not warped to bad, sometimes these can be machined until even but you never know how much metal will be left on the rotor.

on disc brakes there is a metal marker on them that when the pads get low on material it will make a squeeling noise to let you know its time to change the pads.. so I would say you are in need of front pads also even though they look good you are getting low.. this marker is designed to let you know its time before you get to metal to metal .. jerry
