Disconnect battery on 2003 nissan micra auto to clean and grease terminal, when reconnected car wont start all lights are on but wont turnover. Car was working perfect prior to disconnecting battery.

Just because lights are working does not mean you have a good enough connection to operate the starter motor. Try turning on headlamps, then try to crank it with someone looking at headlamps. If they dim badly or go out, recheck the battery terminal connections. Did you grease the areas that should make the connections? What grease did you use? Try cleaning connections with brake cleaner, sand or wire brush and reconnect without grease. If this works, grease the outside only to seal connections and prevent corrosion.

Why car starts when i try to reconnect battery cables after replacing starter

Could be the wires on the starter solinoid are on the wrong terminals, or the starter is getting power from the wrong source.

Battery dies unless positive cable is disconnected & then reconnected to start it.

Could still be your starter relay or starter itself. Turn your headlights on and then crank. Do headlights dim greatly when cranking?

get a lift
buy a new or rebuilt starter
drive the car onto the lift
disconnect the negative battery cable
put the car up in the air
disconnect the wiring from the starter, use your cell phone camera to take a picture before removing the wires
take the top and bottom bolts out which hold the starter to the bell housing
pull starter out and down
put new starter in and put bolts back in
look at cell phone picture and reconnect wiring the same way
let car down and reconnect battery
you are done

Looking for instructions to replace starter on 2005 buick lacrosse

to replace the starter:
1. disconnect the neg. battery cable
2. jack up the car and support with stands (safety first!!)
3. starter is located one the front of the engine
4.mark wiring with a lil paint, (anything) so you know how to put them back on
5. 2 bolts, and it's out!
reverse procedure to install

note: if the car has a remote start, when reconnect the battery cable, starter may engage. have key fob (remote) in hand, to disable the system.

Car won't start after disconnecting battery to replace alternator

Are you sure you have the battery connected right, Red to + Black to -? The connections are tight? Are sure the new batery is good? I've seen that happen before where the battery is new but dead. Try jumping it from another car or put that battery in another car and see if it starts that car. If you have a voltmeter check the battery, it should be about 12.8 volts, then check while trying to start the car the voltage shoudn't drop below 10 volts.

Battery issue.....

look closely if there are wires hanging near the positive terminal of the battery.

you could have miss reconnecting one wire that is connected to your starter or the main cable itself is corroded and is not making a contact. that main cable is the one hooked to the starter.

tnx 4 using fixya,
