I have replaced the oxygen sensors but after a short period of time the trouble codes return and on occasion the car will stall in traffic.

Thanks,

What does code P2197 On town car 2004 means?

P2197 - Lack of HO2S-21 Switch, Sensor Indicates Lean
A Heated Oxygen (HO2S) sensor indicating lean at the end of a test is trying to correct for an over-rich condition. The test fails when the fuel control system no longer detects switching for a calibrated amount of time. See the possible causes for DTC P2195.

Possible causes
- Faulty Rear Heated Oxygen Sensor Bank 1
- Rear Heated Oxygen Sensor Bank 1 harness is open or shorted
- Rear Heated Oxygen Sensor Bank 1 circuit poor electrical connection
- Exhaust gas leaks Help with this
When is the code detected?
The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) detected the HO2S12 sensor has reported a lean condition for an extended period during an intrusive test
Symptoms
- Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light)
- High Fuel Consumption
- Excessive Smoke from Exhaust
P2270 Description
The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) supplies a voltage of about 450 mV between the HO2S high and low signal circuits. The oxygen sensor varies the voltage over a range from about 1,000 mV when the exhaust is rich, down through about 10 mV when the exhaust is lean.
The PCM monitors and stores the heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) voltage information. The PCMevaluates the HO2S voltage samples in order to determine the amount of time the HO2S voltage was out of range. The PCM compares the stored HO2S voltage samples taken within each sample period and determines if majority of the samples are out of the operating range.

Obd1 trouble codes

#53 oxygen sensor heating circuit (get a new sensor)
#66 air assisted injector control circuit or circuit low
#32 oxygen heater control circuit high ( new sensor again)
theres a good chance you've several o2 sensors and I'd have to some reading on 66. I'm a chevy guy :)

1997 nissan sentra 1.6l trouble code PO136

DTC P0136 - Oxygen O2 Sensor Circuit Low Voltage (Bank 1, Sensor 2)
Essentially the same as P0137, a P0136 code refers to the second oxygen sensor on Bank 1. The O2 oxygen sensor produces a voltage between .1 mV and .9 mV. The ECM monitors O2 sensor voltage and determines if exhaust is lean or rich. O2 sensor voltage is high when exhaust is rich and low when exhaust is lean. The ECM monitors this voltage and increases or decreases fuel injector pulsewidth according to engine fuel/air ratio. If the ECM detects low HO2Sensor voltage for an extended period, it will set P0136 Conditions required to set: HO2 sensor voltage is low for longer than 2 minutes (minutes depend on model of vehicle. Could be up to 4 minutes)

There may be no visible symptoms to the driver. Poor fuel mileage, possible misfire, depending on O2 sensor position when sticking.

A code P0136 may mean that one or more of the following has happened:
Faulty O2 sensor leak in exhaust close to O2 sensor
Short to voltage on O2 signal circuit
Open in circuit resistance caused by corrosion in connector

If you need additional details, feel fr4ee to contact us clicking the previous faulf code links.

Hope this helps; also keep in mind that your feedback is important and I'll appreciate your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment about this answer.

Thank you for using Fixya, and have a nice day.

2003 Chrysler Town & Country po171 code

DTC P0171 - System Too Lean (Bank 1)
Basically this means that an oxygen sensor in bank 1 detected a lean condition (too much oxygen in the exhaust). On V6/V8/V10 engines, Bank 1 is the side of the engine that has cylinder #1.

Note: This DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code) is very similar to P0174, and in fact your vehicle may show both codes at the same time.

I would suggest that you take a look at the front oxygen sensor. Typically speaking the oxygen sensor causes this code to appear. Here is the possible cause list from the manual for your car.

Trouble Code: P0171 (2.5L V6 Auto) - Fuel System Lean (Bank 1)

Possible Causes:
Air leaks in intake manifold, exhaust pipes or exhaust manifold
Base engine mechanical problem causing a lean A/F condition
Fuel control Sensor is out of calibration (e.g., ECT, IAT or MAP)
Fuel delivery component fault (clogged filter, low fuel pressure)
O2 element is contaminated, deteriorated or it has failed
Vacuum hose is disconnected, broken, leaking or loose

Hope this helps (remember to rating this answer ans leave us a testimonial comment). Thank you for using FixYa.

When driving in town with my lincoln continental i will notice that it will start to miss a lil. when making a stop somewhere and cutting the car off when returning back to it and trying to go it wont stay...

A lean condition is the O2 Sensors (oxygen) reporting
a lean fuel mix:eg not much gas, mostly air

That would usually be caused by a vacuum leak
not a bad O2 sensor

You may have a fuel pump failing, thus taking out
fuel, you get a no start and lean O2 readings

You need to be a car doctor, not a mechanic
for this.

You could also have EGR Valve issues, letting
in too much exhaust gases
A worn TPS Sensor and loosing throttle position
Worn out O2 Sensors--over 100,000 miles on them

I just bought a used engine for my 1988 lincoln and its reading history codes of 91, 41, and 34. What are these codes

91 (engine running) heated oxygen sensor indicates system lean, left side
91 ( cont. memory) no heated oxygen sensor switching indicated, left side.
41 (engine running) lean right side.
41(cont. memory) no heated oxygen sensor switch, right side.
