My indicator light came on and won't go off

  • sas1983 Feb 23, 2009

I have only 8800 miles on my 2008 Hyundai Accent. 2 weeks ago, I took it to a dealership because the malfunction indicator light came on. They said everything was fine, and reset the computer. Now the light has come on again. Also, the car has a hard time accelerating and there is a vibration that comes up through the seat and steering wheel. I'm taking it to another dealer tomorrow to see what their explanation is.

mine is doing the same thing, and I am taking it to the dealer tomorrow, mine has 6000 miles in it. SYours should still be under warranty, so take it back to the dealer and make them fix it.

Could be exhaust problem, Maybe the catalytic converter. Ask a shop to check the computer.
if it is a converter you can buy on line cheaper than the dealer. be sure to ask a shop if they will put on your part.
Good luck

MY GUESS, IS YOU HAVE:
Misfire.
p03xx code.
but what code, you actually have, is key to solving this riddle.
in fact this is the main purpose of OBD2 systems.
to fix car faster, thus less smog and less wasted fuel.

VSC and Malfunction Indicator came on and stays on

When you say malfunction indicator , do you mean `check engine`` light.
These paired lights can indicate a change in engine air flow and fuel mixture. Try a fresh tank of premium fuel, but first a unscrew and re-screw the gas cap until it ratchets into place. The lights can be triggered by a loose gas cap, a fouled O2 sensor, and several other emission related problems including sticking throttle body components, etc.
This can sometimes be sprayed with carb cleaner inserted in the snorkle area of the air intake where teh snorkle meets the metal intake.

Does the car drive normally? Try removing the battery terminal(negative) and reconnecting it after 10 minutes and see what happens.
Let us know how you get on.

Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL)

I had the samething happen to my Jetta. I took it to the dealer and nothing was wrong.
I would think it's safe to drive until Monday when the VW shop opens.

Switch off tire pressure warning light

From the manual: First find the reset button, located below the handbrake (emergency brake) lever. The button has an "exclamation mark in a tyre" symbol.

Make sure the pressures in all tyres are what you want them to be. 35psi all 'round is good for sporty driving.

Engine off. Turn ignition to the second position (ON) but don't start the engine.

Keep the re-set button pressed until the flat tyre indicator light on the dashboard COMES ON for several seconds.

Start the engine, and drive the car normally for several minutes. This will re-set the indicator to whatever pressures you have in the tyres. Hope this helps!!
