I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but, if the engine is spinning over "faster" than it used to, you probably have a timing belt issue. If the belt has broken, or jumped a couple of teeth, the "timing" of the top and bottom halves of the engine are incorrect, and it will have little or no compression. No compression lets the engine crank faster.

A squirel or other small rodent type got in under your car and chewed right through your gas line and so your motor cranks but no fuel gets to it because its all leaking out of your knawed gas line, causing that gas smell. either that or an angry ex- got under your car and snipped them.... or it could be your fuel pump.

1996 le 3.0 v6 camry, ran out off gas now it won't start. it pumps fuel and started when you spray starter fluid in it

how do you know that the pump is working and how do you know the pump is pumping enough?

have you measured fuel pressure

furthermore, even if fuel pressure is "good" you may have clogged all the injectors when you ran out of gas and sucked up all the **** from the bottom of the tank

Your tranny has died.

More likely the pump in the tranny is bad, but it will take a rebuild to fix the problem sorry to say.

Have you gotten this problem fixed yet? If not what is the condition of the battery cables( corrosion free)? Also how old is the battery? One dead cell could possibly cause this problem.
