The car was running poorly already it would die every time it was taken over 60 mph then progresivly got worse till dying at 45-50 mph.then one day it died on the way to work and now will not start.checked for spark and nothing.i've replaced wires cap rotor plugs and nothing..and im stumped

Re: mazda 626 will not start..no spark
Offhand, a lot of possibilities that can cause no spark and/or deteriorating performance.
possibilities for no spark:
if it is an automatic transmission, the neutral switch;
if it has an immobilizer tied to the anti theft/security system;
faulty cam and/or crank position sensors;
loose wiring connectors, corroded terminals.
possibilities for deteriorating performance:
restricted, blocked faulty injectors;
clogged fuel filter;
clogged air filter;
The correct procedure would be to have the car's computer scanned for the error codes. The error codes would give us a general idea where to begin diagnosis/tests. There are a number of known shops that would do the scanning for free and provide you with the error codes.

Sounds like timing belt ? and the Distribiter could be off too ! had the same problem with a work van would run ok then die ,first was the timing chain then trying restart It bent the valves so never ran right again and I didnt want to rebuild the Engine
First look at this and make sure the plug wires are connected correctly.
If the plug wires are correct then it is obvious that the cam belt was installed incorrectly of a sensor was damaged during the installation. Take it back to the person who replace the belt and nicely demand they fix it.
Find an inductive pickup indicator for spark. Place on distributor cap to see if spark is at coil internal tower. If no spark at internal tower, look at ignition module or pickup coil. Ignition modules are prone to failure on 626's. But if you have spark at tower but not at the wire end, then your rotor is gone.
The engine has an electronic module where the spark plug wires connect to. Replace this and you will see the difference. Once this module heats up it will malfunction. After cooling down the car will start up again. hope this helps.
my 1988 mazda 626 starts okay then dies everytime it idles down to normal idle speed. i replaced the throttle control sensor and the mass air sensor. i replaced the rotor in the distributor but is still dies. if you throttle up to about 1500 rpm it keeps running. any ideas???
