Question about 1998 Honda Passport

New radio installed - now dash lights don't work

I installed a new radio in my 1998 Honda Passport.  Everything works fine with the exception of the dash lights - I've checked the fuses and they are OK.  I was very careful with wiring.  Any reason the new install would effect the dash lights?

Thanks for the help Eddge - that makes sense. However, I checked the fuses (all are good) and I was very careful to tape off the end of the unused wire.  Is it possible the wire that originally went to the factory stereo is part of a loop and if it's not connect to power, the dash lights do not work?  Do I need to connect that wire to power?

Most factory stereos are wired to the dash dimmer switch. Usually if the dash lights go out after an after market stereo installation, it is because the wire that originally went to the factory stereo is not used for after market stereos. Double check the fuses and ensure the wire that controlled the lights on the factory stereo is not grounding out on something.

I wouldn't do that myself. The wire originally just regulated the power going to the lights on the stereo. Hooking it to another power wire could cause problems. However, if you would like to try this you can always give it a shot and see what happens. Just keep a finger on the wire and if it starts to get warm or hot take it off right away. I do not reccoment it however. I will do some research and see if I can find anything that might be the problem. But if you do try it, let me know what happens!

Dash light doesn't work

Check fuses for dash light / instrument display. If the fuse is good, you may want to check if stereo share an illumination wire with dash. You may have broken the connection behind stereo.

I installed aftermarket radio on toyata corolla 06. everything worked fine except for dash light dont come on and tail lights dont either. checked fuses and none are bad. help plz!!!!

You have probably connected the dash auxiliary wire with a wrong wire on the aftermarket radio. Such scenario should pop a fuse and probably kill the lights. Try disconnecting the radio and see if that solves ur problem. Then u probably need to rewire.

No dash lights when headlights are turned on. Everything works fine on my vehicle EXCEPT today the panel lights don't work. Turn signals, hazard blinker, oil gauge, rpm gauge, speedometer, drive shift...

there is a regulator for the display brightness, you may have it turn'd down or it has stopped working;. it controls the brightness at which the dash lights are. usually has a speedo sign on it. goes up and down. it works with the main light and is conecter to them on the same lighting board if it has gone then a new light swtch control switch will be needed.

When I turn the ignition on on my 1998 Honda Passport everything works fine and then the ignition to START and it blows a fuse and will not start

What fuse? Is it an ignition fuse? You could go to autozone.com and get free wire digrams. All you need to do is register which is also free. The diagram may show the fuse panel and you can trace what fuse is blowing to what it powers.

I have a honda odyssey 2001 the light of the panel are not workinkg all the rest of the lights are working i check the fuse and are ok only i did was change the radio and install a new one but did not...

I'm guessing you're talking about the dash light aound the radio. The dash lights around the radio share the same fuse with all the other lights that come on when you turn the parking light on. If the other light are working then your fuses are fine. What i think might have happen was when you took the dash cover off, the bulbs behind it might had burn out. You might want to try new bulbs.

good luck

Dash gas gage shows empty car runs fine previous owner put new fuel pump in it

Sounds like the fuel tank sender unit is faulty; keep in midn that the Passport fuel gauges can be calibrated, and won't work properly when out of calibration. Your local Honda dealer has the tools to calibrate the sending unit/fuel gauge assembly. That's the first thing to try, after that if there is still a problem you may have an issue with the sending unit itself or the fuel gauge on the dash.

Hope this helps (remember to rate and comment this answer).

Radio Works, but Screen is out, Fuse Ok

If everything else is still working and the Fuse is good it is Because the Internal Lighting on the Head Unit is Burnt out. The only way to Fix this is to get a New Head Unit.
