Question about 1993 Acura Integra Hatchback

2 Answers

No spark my 93 integra randomly stopped working about a week ago. when it died it was like someone took and just turned my key off. it has plenty of gas and oil. i took apart the distributer and everything seems to be just fine. the cat still acts as if it is trying to turn over. all the spark plugs are just fine. everything seems in good condition at sight. she just wont start. this is the first problem this car has prsented. ive heard to check the battery, alternater, ignition switch, and even the e.c.u. however, the fact that car still acts as if it is trying to turn over, makes me second guess those ideas. if anyone has had to deal with and fix this problem, please email me at mr2brandon@yahoo.com as soon as possible.

If your not getting no spark check to see if it has a distributor cap or if its a coil pack normally acuras have coil packs they are what the other end of the spark plugs snap into it should be squareish with all 4 of the wires going to it... they go bad on hondas acuras toyotas all them type of cars... you can get a used 1 for 40 to 50 bucks...

you can get free diagnostics done at advance auto you just give them your liscense and they let you use there machine then when you bring it back you get your liscense back buddy i worked there so trust me it will save you 50 bucks....its def not the battery if its cranking its either not getting gas or spark you have to narrow it down to gas spark or oxygen spark you can tell by pulling the #1 spark plug wire off while having someone crank it ....

Possibly fuel pump. can you here the pump buzz with key on? hold key to start & have someone hit bottom of fuel tank (where pump is) If start = fuel pump. There aren't many things that will make a car not run. You need to check for fuel, spark, airflow 1st.

While driving, headlights dim and radio stops working.

Our '91 Integra can start and perform for a whole week then randomly dies at intersections. Symptoms are dim headlights and stuff like yours. One would think it was alternator or battery right? No. I took battery in to Walmart to their diagnostic station by the paint department. The diagnostic machine refused to charge the battery because it had a full charge. The battery checked out fine.

Do you understand what this means? This means that the alternator has been charging the battery all week that Daughter B has been driving to work-school-home-boyfriend-etc. Yet it died with dead battery symptoms. This is driving me crazy.

So, I removed the battery then put it back in and the car started and the car ran like a scalded cat and I got home. Next morning- Daughter B tries to go to school and car won't start.?! I apply battery charger set to 'Quick start' and started the car. I removed charger and applied my DC voltmeter. Voltage at idle was 12.5V showing alternator is charging. Put finger on throttle cable and rev engine and voltage goes up to 13v but no higher showing that the voltage regulator is working.

What we have is a problem unrelated to the expansion and contraction of heated versus cooled parts. The pretty much rules out bad physical wiring connections. Without more knowledge on this subject I would just have to say the car is demon possessed and that I should buy a new used car with different problems eh?

Your vehicle may be part of a recall from Hinda/Acura. This recall involves most models, years 1998-2002. Defective part is Ignition Switch. Typical symptoms include: Random Long/Hard starts, stalls while driving (when this happens speedo drops to "0" while car is in motion), No spark, some warning lights are not lit (when key is set to "ON")..typically happens more often in hotter or humid weather. Call your local dealer with your VIN# on hand, and refer to a 2002 Honda/Acura recall regarding Ignition Switch Failure.

1999 Honda Accord randomly shuts down while driving

The ignitor in the distributor needs changed. This little guy can cause massive headaches. They work intermittently, but once warm, they knock the ignition spark off.

Hope this helps, vote if you think so thanks.

Approx.50# fuel pressure at test port, engine will only start with starting fluid and then die.

I worked on a 1999 Suburban a couple weeks ago, it had good fuel pressure and spark but wouldn't run. No check engine light. It turned out the catalytic converters were plugged. After I took the exhaust pipes loose at the manifold it started right up. Just a thought.

92 geo just stopped running while driving!

I would check your coil or your distributer. The easiest way to check to see if you have a spark would to pull the spark plug out then plug it back into the spark plug wire. Ground it off to the engine mount or any good gound, then have someone turn the key and see if the plug sparks. (Make sure you wear electric gloves while doing this.)
