I think what you have is just a failed fuel injection fuel pump, the pump is located inside the fuel tank and the fuel tank must be removed to access and replace the pump assembly.

The regulator may have locked up preventing anything to pass. It could also be a clogged filter. Those are two of the biggest reasons why fuel wont get to the injectors.

take some WD40 and spray into the intake, if it acts likes it wants to start then it is the fuel system. Take the line off before the filter see if it pumping gas, if not then it is the fuel pump, then after the filter and see if it pumping gas, then at the engine. Now if it does not act like it wants to start it is the ignition system. Good Luck Tim

Where is the location of the fuel filter on a 1991 Pontiac LeMans LE ?

Most GM cars the fuel filter is located under the car by the left rear wheel. Be sure you wait at least a half hour after running the car to remove the filter, the system retains pressure for a while.

Several possibilities: fuel filter may be plugged, fuel pump may be going bad and under-pumping. Ignition system may have a problem, or charging system may not be putting out enough voltage to power the ignition system (but usually accompanied by no start /low battery condition) If dash warning light comes on when this happens, have a code check done (most large parts houses do this free) Also have charging system tested. From what you said though I'm leaning towards the filter or pump as the cause of your problem.
