Anyone know how to replace front and rear brakes pads on a 1999 new jetta gls? thanks.

These are not much different from most modern disc brake systems. Once the wheel is off, you will find the caliper assembly is held on with guide pins that screw into place. Little spring clips hold the pads to the caliper. If you do one side at a time you can reference the other to make sure you get it back together right. Be sure to unhook any speed and wear sensors before pulling the caliper off. Use a coat hanger or other wire to suspend the caliper. (not good to hang by the hose) Take the cap off the brake master and compress the brake pistons with a C clamp before you try to put the new pads in place. If the master overflows you will want some rags there to catch it. Brake fluid and paint don't get along very well. To do the job right, you need a dial caliper to check the thickness of the rotors. The minimum thickness is stamped into the hubs on most VWs. If there are scores or lines worn into the rotor they need to be removed and machined. If not, you may be able to remove the glaze from the rotors with some fine sandpaper and lots of elbow grease. ( I always take mine in for machining as it also ensures any warping is taken care of.) On vehicles with 4 wheel discs it is recomended to do all 4 at the same time, but NEVER replace in less than pairs. (front or rear) Another safety note, don't breath the black dust. It's carcinogenic.

Remving caliper pins on 2000 vw jetta and caliper


For front brake pads replacement you need only usually wrench set, inclusive 7 mm allen key also. But for rear brake pads replacement you need obligatory a special caliper piston pressing tool, in order to press back rear caliper piston with parking brake automatic adjustment!!!
For front brake pads. You should buy the brake pads (with wear sensor). For change front brake pads you must raise vehicle, remove wheels, extract the retaining spring of the caliper, and remove the caliper as follow:
1. Do not disconnect the brake hose from the caliper, and do not allow the caliper to hang by the brake hose!
2. Remove top and bottom caps (on back side of the caliper) for access to guide pins, then unbolt and remove them from the brake carrier. Remove the caliper.
3. Now you must thoroughly clean the brake calipers (free of grease).
4. Remove outer brake pad from brake carrier.
5. Pull inner brake pad out of brake caliper piston.
6. Check up the brake fluid level on the reservor, and emptying if neccessary!
7. Push piston back into brake caliper housing.
8. Install inner brake pad (with expanding spring) in brake caliper piston. (Arrow marked on pad - if exist, must point in direction of brake disc rotation when vehicle is moving forward).
9. Install outer brake pad into brake carrier.
10. Bolt brake caliper housing to brake carrier using two guide pins. Tightening torque is 25 Nm.
11. Install both caps.
12. Insert retaining spring into brake caliper housing. Important: Depress the brake pedal firmly several times while the car is stationary so that the brake pads adjust to their normal operating positions!!! Check brake fluid level and top up if neccessary!!!

How do i find out if my 2003 VW Jetta GLS 1.8T needs front brake pads with the sensors?


The best way would be to remove a wheel and look at the brake pads to see if there is a wire connected to it.

2007 uplander rear brake repair - what type of brake pads came as original equipment? Ceramic or semi-metalic? The dealer service states that the original were semi-metalic. I've replaced the front...


pads last about 20k, rotors about 40,for the fronts and about 30/50 for the rears,they are all semi metallic.if you look under the car you will see the places for the jack(not to be used when working on the car OTHER than replacing a tyre.)for all manuals see "manuals"on this website(i am in england...)

Changing rear brake pads

For front brake pads. First you must verify yours front brake disc diameter: 280 mm or 288 mm. (On my car y have 288 mm). After that you can buy the brake pads (with wear sensor). How do you replace brakes on 1999 Pontiac Sunfire?


The engine size don't matter except when you order the parts. First you will want to chock the rear tires. This is a front wheel drive, when you jack the front, park wont work. you should also set the parking brake.
You will want a metric socket set and rachet, and a fairly large flat head screw driver.
Remove the wheel.
When you look at the brakes, you should see 2 bolts holding them on, If they have a star shape that looks like a screw driver might fit in it, it is a torx bit, you will need to replace the wheel and go get one. The guy at the parts store should be able to tell you what size.
I'm pretty sure it is going to be a regular hex nut, probably 12 or 13mm.
You can loosen them, but don't remove them yet.

First you need to depress your caliper. This can be done a couple ways.
I just insert a screw driver between the pad and the rotor(the shiny thing that the pads make contact with.) Carefully pry the inner pad slowly away from the rotor. Don't scratch the rotor, you can dig into the pad all you want, your putting new ones on.
Once the inner pad is all the way in, then you can remove the bolts and the caliper will slide out.
Remove the old pads and replace with the new.
Put the caliper back on, make sure you get the bolts tight.
Do the other wheel the same way.
The other way to get the caliper pushed in, by the way.
Remove the bolts, remove the caliper from the rotor, Use a large "c" clamp to depress the cylinder.

P.S. Do not under any circumstances remove your brake lines.

When you are finished with brakes and have tires replaced....

Caution!!! Before you start your car, pump your brakes a few times. Check your brake fluid. You more than likely wont need any, but you should always check it.
Also, do not add brake fluid before replacing pads, the level is going to be higher with new pads.

Back brakes will be similar if it is disc, if it is drum, do your self a favor and have some one else do it or get a service manual. I could walk you thru it, but you need more tools and you have to adjust them....
Better to pay $100 or so and have it done right.

At what mileage should the rear brakes be replaced? Is it common for the rear brakes to be replaced at less than 22,000 miles on a 2007 Sonata gls?


Most of the stopping power goes to the front of the car. You usually go thru two sets or sometimes three sets of front pads before you need to change the rear brakes. It sounds odd the rear brakes need to be replaced at 22,000. havee the front brakes been replaced before?

Rotors on rear of 2003 jetta gls


Do you really need the Rotors replaced? How many miles? Are they metal on metal when you brake? Can you have them turned at an auto parts suply house? Remove and replace as in solution #1 but explore yor options first.

2002 Jetta Brakes


On one of the front driver side pads there is a sensor for low pads. He either did not hook it back up or got a lose connection to it.
