Question about 2004 Nissan Maxima

Scraping sound at very low speed (5MPH)

I am getting a scraping sound from the front end of my 2004 Maxima SL (45,000 miles). It is very pronounced at slow speeds (in parking lots) and even more pronounced when turning the car (while parking). It doesn't matter if you are breaking or not, and there is no shimmy involved, like when you have a bad rotor. It almost sounds like a bad front end bearing or axle, since you can tell that it is related to something spinning or turning. The brake pads appear to still have plenty of pad left. This appears to be a fairly common complaint, in reading thru consumer websites about the 2004 Maxima, but nowhere can I find what the solution to this problem is.

I have a 2002 Nissan Maxima, it makes a squeaking noise every time I turn left. It is also worse when people sit on the passenger side. It also makes the noise when going through pot holes. I had the ball bearing replaced a year ago. The rotors and brake pads have been replaced. I have taken it to 3 different places and no one can figure it out. Please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

this problem is the wheel bearing. I have replaced both of my front ones within 6 months of each other on a 2003 Maxima.

I have personally seen a lot of wheel bearings go bad on these vehicles. If you hear the noise get more pronounced when turning left, the right front (passenger side) bearing is most likely the culprit- if turning right, it would be the left front (driver side) bearing.

Hope this is helpful!!

This is the wheel bearing going bad. I've replaced both my front bearing within 6 months of each other. I had to do one twice and replace the hub as well. The noise can be a metal on metal grinding sound and is most prominent at lower speeds.

While driving dwn the road i hve a bad shake in my steering wheel i have a 1999 gmc yukon

it sounds like the front tires need balancing.if you drive the truck slowly(creeping down the road at about 5mph)and lightly holding the steering wheel do you feel the steering wheel moving back and forth.this could indicate a bad belt in a tire where as a wheel imbalance won`t show up at this low of a speed, but a bad belt will.also have the front end checked for worn front end components and wheel bearings, this can cause a bad shake too.

VW 2004 V-6 Touareg: I have un-indentified grinding, shimming in my front end. It's not bad tires, out of balance tires nor engine related. At 2000 RPM/50-65 mph a thumping noise, even in neutral, more...

Find a shop with a 'rolling road' or 'electric chassis ears'.

Chassis ears are microphones you place under or around the car and drive it listening to each microphone to locate the noise.

Rolling road you can listen whilst going nowhere.

Sound like you have a collapsed engine mount allowing engine to rub somewhere.

Rattle in front end since 20000 miles, now 99000 miles top of struts are tight, tie rods seem tight . What else could it be? Happens on bumps.

could be idler arm, ball joints, bearing adjustment. what does rattle sound like? hot weather, cold weather? low speed, high speed?

Roar in front end

I have the same thing. It started last summer when I had about 20,000 miles. I just took it into the dealer. They say it is the antenna and that they removed it and tested drove it and the noise went away. Mine starts around 35 mph. I don't know if they are pulling my leg and there is a bigger problem that the financially strapped GM won't fix. I also have a bad CV joint and unless it goes out within the next 500 miles, GM won't replace it.

2004 Grand Cherokee Whine - What is the Problem

It sounds like your power steering fluid is low. When the fluid is low there will almost always be a constant growl coming from the pump. Worst case - it may be the pump itself going bad. . I own 3 Jeeps but have only had this problem on my 87 Cherokee.
Ford PS pumps are notorious for making noise as they get old, but they still seem to work ok. This may be the case with your Jeep. If the PS still works and the fluid level is normal, it may just be a matter of whether or not you can stand to listen to the noise.

you should visit another dealer. that is not normal. the Saturn Vue is a very well made car and i could see these problems if it had 150,000 miles.
