It sounds like your over-drive is going out. Have you serviced the transmission lately? I would highly recommend also having the gov. pressure solenoid screen cleaned and as with most all Dodges, I recommend installing a inline filter in the pressure line going to the cooler. It will prolong the life of your transmission.
It's not hard to do and most any parts store can order you 1, the small inline filter looks like a metal fuel filter, cut the metal line going to the cooler, add some rubber trans. hose and filter. but only AFTER having your transmission serviced! Whoever services your transmission have them inspect the pan well, if you have a lot of metal in the pan, you will more than likely be looking at replacing your transmission in the very near future. if their metal, the could be coming from transmission fluid lines, are they going into radiator ? one @ top & one @ bottom of rad . their cooling lines from trans, supply / return . if rubber lines, they go to a transmission cooler , looks like a small radiator, rectangular , supply / return. power steering has no cooling . these lines don't come from engine, power steering has power steering fluid NOT TO BE MISTAKEN FOR TRANSMISSION FLUID, TOTALLY DIFFERANT !!!!!!
Depending on where the leak is, you may be able to cut the bad piece out and use rubber hose or a brake line to reconnect it. If you use rubber hose you may need to flare the lines to keep the hose from slipping off. If it is one of the ends where the line connects to the radiator or the transmission you may have to get a new line and fitting from the dealer.
I cant find any diagram for the routing of the lines.Most of the time it is just a fitting and these can be purchased from parts stores and the dealer.You can repair lines if a hole is rubbedin the metal part by cutting and using a compression fitting to repair.If your model has rubber hose at the radiator end then you will need to replace it with transmission or power steering hose.Do not use feul line or plain rubber hose.These are not made from the correct material and will swell and burst.I dont care what the guy says at the parts store feul line is not ok!Unless you have a HD truck you should be dealing with 5/16 (8mm) metal and or hose.Clean the leaking area with brake clean and get it dry , make sure transmission is full and crank the truck and let it run while you pinpoint the leak.Good luck and let me know if i can help.P/s if you decide to replace the lines you can purchase the bent to fit from the dealer.Dont try bending yourself ,it has taking me years to master this.
No, the remote oil line hose needs to be replaced. There is an easier fix to this other then replacing the remote oil line. Just to make sure were on the same page, the transmission line has no rubber line and is a one piece metal line from the transmission to the radiator on the passenger side. The remote engine oil line is on the drivers side and is rubber and goes to the radiator and remote oil filter housing. That is the hose that is common to leak at the factory compression clamp where the rubber hose connects to the metal line. The factory compression clamp can be cut off and just place the rubber hose or replace the oil line and replace the compression clamp. Make sure it's a compression clamp and not a hose clamp, the compression clamp has a better all round clamping force to the hose and less to fail then the hose clamps.
