Depending on mileage, many of these motors develop a leak around the intake manifold gasket...the antifreeze leak usually burns off of the hot intake before you can spot it. Most motors are worth this repair...about $350. to $450. at your nearby shop. It is a good sign that the motor temperature stays cool when it has adequate coolant. You did not mention seeing any milky color on your oil check dipstick...that is a sign the head gasket is leaking...a much more costly repair...Your least costly repair could be a defective radiator cap...free pressure tests at you local parts store. Hope this helps.

it sounds like the start of a leakey head gasket a head gasket stop water , oil and compression from mixing together If the car has been hot in the past i would change the head gakets and flush radiator professaly before you end up with a cracked head

SOURCE: 04 CHEVY IMPALA IS LEAKING GREEN FLUID.

It seems that Midas is going to stand behind the work that they did on your car. If there is something happening that they haven't already diagnosed, they should be able to tell you that, too.

My guess is that the green liquid you saw was coolant coming from the overflow of the coolant recovery tank because the system is overheating and the excess pressure is forcing coolant out. There may still be air in the cooling system, or possibly air is getting into the system from a bad head gasket or crack in the head or block. Check to see if there is any evidence of oil in the coolant, or if there is water in the crankcase -- the oil on the dipstick will look 'milky'.

a common problem with the 2.2 motor is the head gasket leaking on the drivers side just above the transmission. It runs down over the trans.

Gauge shows hot and loses coolant

IF you are loosing coolant, you have a leak, either from the radiator or pipes or internal to the engine, find the leak fix it. I do not recommend use of sealants, gunges your engine up causing all sorts of other problems

How do you find where my engine is leaking fluid

Sorry to say you probably have engine troubles.
A leaking head gasket will drink the coolant and cause the bubbles to form.
A mechanic can check for leaks by pressurizing the cooling system and also checking for exhaust gas in the radiator.

2004 Impala ls temperature dash gauge

fans came late on those car, like 212 and second fan comes on at 224,you reprogram it to come a lot sooner,,other thing is there might be gunk inside the block, and coolant has hard time to pass through, and staying longer than enough in block temp goes high, even tough the radiator is doing it's job,it is just coming out block lot hotter than it suppose to be,and gauge read the block not the radiator

"The car didn't overheat" you may have a blown head gasket, also if it sustained heat for a prolonged time , the head may have warped. Check coolant level.

Overheating, Mild Leak, Hot coolant temp warning and signal

All cooling systems are "pressurized" recovery systems on vehicle..........since fuel injection is the norm. Older carbureted cars ran at about 182 - 186 degrees. Newer (over mid 1980's) commonly are fuel injected WITH PRESSURIZED cooling systems. The 1st place to look on small leaks, is almost always, the Radiator cap. If it does not hold pressure in, the pressure from engine operation, will push the fluid out & it will evaporate. Start there.

With the engine cool, maybe in the morning. If you have some jugs to put water in fill them up, and put them someplace warm if possible, or just use hot water when your ready to work on it. Take the radiator cap off start the car let it run. (we know it gets hot in 12 mins) You should be able to see the fluid in the radiator move quite a bit after it's warm. If what I'm hoping is the problem, the radiator fluid level will drop a lot maybe as much as a third. If this happens add that warm or hot water to the radiator until almost full. It is bound to hick up a time or to so be careful as you said the temp gauge was at 220 degrees. (hot enough to melt your skin off) Give it a few more minutes as thermostat hopefully is opening and closing. After the fluid level in the radiator stays consistent, place cap on radiator. Let it cool off, how ever long it takes would be best if could wait till temp gauge is close to cold start position. Start it up and see if this helps, if they did indeed replace things, which don't always leave a lot of tool marks. Then maybe they just didn't burp/bleed the cooling system of air. So your cooling system will not work as there is no water in the block only in the radiator. This is a long shot, but only take 30 minutes, at most and a little bit of water. Hope this helps, let me know if it does.

Temperature gauge fluctuates

First of all you have a bad heater core that needs to be replaced. Second you may have a bad temperature sensor. Make sure the radiator if full of water
