There should be an adjust screw on the housing that allows the catch bar to adjust up or down, just loosen and adjust and then re-tighten. that should do it

Make sure it is not binding/sticking where you pull the release cable.

Drench the entire works in WD-40. Push it back and forth until it moves with no resistance.

Make sure the part that hooks onto the latch hasn't come loose enough to not slide over when it makes contact.

If that doesn't work, take the whole thing off. You'll have to anyway to replace it. Chances are with it disassembled you'll see what's wrong.

I have a 2004 Chevy Cavalier. I had no problems with the trunk when I bought it in February. It eventually got to the point that I would have to slam it hard to get it to latch. Now it won't latch at...

I do believe the latch is NOT adjustable while the striker which the latch closes onto has adjustment to it. Not the part on the trunk lid but the part in the trunk, it should have two bolts and when loosened the striker should move around. May or may not be enough for what you need but should have something.

hope this helps

98 chevy cavalier trunk won't stay shut

Could be. Or the electric part of the latch could be faulty.
Assuming you have an electric release you should be able to disconnect it and just use a key.

I have a 2004 chevy cavalier and the trunk latch won't click into place and close fully, therefore the trunk won't close fully.

yes that could be the problem. try this putt your key in to the lock and turn it to unlock it , check to see if latch is open ,while still holding the key in the unlock position close the trunk and relock it with the key while pushing down on the hood at the same time. replace the lock when you can .there is no quick fix for this unless u use a bungee cord for it .

I have a 2003 cavalier. i opened the trunk to get groceries out and when i was done i tried to close it and it won't close. it doesn't latch.

take the trunk key and turn it like you are opening the trunk, now looking at the latch, it will be "UP". take a small screwdriver and put in in the slot and pull the latch down, it should come DOWN. and now shousd just look like a big slot that the "striker" will go up into. now try to close the trunk. if the latch still has a problem, have it checked by a shop.

Trunk will not open

Your latch may be broken go though the trunk though the back seat. Check to see if the latch is broken; or stuck. There is a little hole where all you have to do is use a screwdriver turn clockwise if trunk opens then your latch is either broken or your locking mechanism is stuck. Good luck and hope this helps you.
