It certainly can be driven, but when going over bumps, the steering wheel will jump around in your hand a bit. I would advise not replacing with a factory OEM damper as companies like ARB make a much heavier dirty model and will last and work a lot better

SOURCE: how do you get the steering wheel off a land rover

with great difficulty, first you have to disconnect battery to stop air bag accidently going off ,then remove the air bab ,two clips underneath steering wheel ,very difficult without the right tools ,then the big nut and maybe evan a steering wheel puller.Whats the fault that necessatates removing the steering wheel in the first place?

SOURCE: Land Rover Discovery I dashboard replacement.

There is a little more to it than that, but not a tough job if you have patience. You will need to remove both 'doors' on the dash-one glovebox, one fuse access panel. on US models, you will need to remove the pass side airbag as well, then 2 bolts that hold a set of relays under the airbag, then 5 bolts that hold a support bracket (also under the pass side airbag-behind glovebox.

Then under the dash at teh outside near the doors, remove 2 sets of 10mm bolts. after than remove 2 sets of 10mm bolts near where the bottom of the dash touches the tranny tunnel. obviously all the center console needs to be removed, and the center panel of the dash, as there are several sets of screws that hold that to the back of the dash.

be patient, take lots of photos of how it goes together, and where the wiring is(was), and this is pretty easy.

Thanks

I have a problem with my 1996 landrover discovery, when going over a bump the vehicle goes out of control veering to one side. I had the steering wheel damper replaced, the vehicle no longer shakes, but is...

It should not go out of control. It might still be the damper, if not nstalled properly OEM dampers are not great. The last time I replaced one I bought a heavy duty ARB damper and it solved my problems

I have a Land Rover Discovery 97 that gets a bad wobble in front end at 55 mph, only happens when driven over bumps or uneven pavment.

It will be the steering damper, now, if you have replaced this recently, then the damper is propably fitted at the wrong angle, instead of being straight ( horizontal ) it should be pointing down at an angle. If you have not changed the steering damper, then i suggest that you do. In my experience, i would not recommend Monroe steering dampers fror Land Rover, try to get Old Man Emu,, Bilstein or Woodhead, or if there is a Britpart supplier, i can recommend the Cellular Dynamic. Hope that helps

1996 land rover discovery intake manifold gasket

oil from the pcv valve going into your intake manifold will cause a gasket to swell. but it should not be to the point where it's noticeable. you should probably replace the intake manifold gasket at this point.
