Question about 2005 Nissan Altima

1 Answer

DO I NEED A NEW STARTER?

HELLO, I AM HAVING TROUBLE STARTING MY CAR AT TIMES. I HAVE AN 05 ALTIMA AND AT TIMES WHEN I GO TO CRANK MY CAR, IT TAKES 3-4 TIMES TO CRANK THE CAR. IT MAKES A TERRIBLE SOUND LIKE WHEN YOU TRY TO TURN YOUR INGNITION AND THE CAR IS ALREADY RUNNING. AFTER 2-3 TIMES OF TRYING, I USUALLY GET IT STARTED. IT DOESN'T ALWAYS DO THIS. DO I NEED A NEW STARTER OR COULD THERE BE SOMETHING ELSE WRONG OR JUST A SIMPLER PEICE THAT I MAY NEED TO BUY. THANK YOU

My 2005 Altima often does this when its been sitting for a few days without driving it ~ but only in cold weather months. I have found if I put gas in it from a carrying tank that it will then start. But not after I turn it over 3 to 5 times. My mechanic says my starter is fine.

I had the same problem with my 2005 Altima....luckily I was still under the extended warranty. Autozone & the dealer said it was the Crank Shaft Sensor. I've had that replaced & no longer have any problems with it starting.

When you say you're having a hard time starting it does that mean it cranks over fine but it just takes a while to start or does that mean the starter is dragging when you try to start it

Its a hot start issue.

Can be related to low fuel pressure or problem with crank sensor.

Also it can be weak battery or starter.

But possibilities are to be inspected to confirm what exactly it is.------

Having trouble with starting. most times is starts

Problem most likely won't go away, and it could strand you and cost a lot more to have towed.

The fuel pump can be tested by a competent mechanic.

Don't throw parts @ it hoping to fix it. Google your issue and do some research, you may find the answer online.

SOME TIME MY CAR WILL TAKE 3-4 CRANKS TO START

Clean out the Idle Control valve. remove the air duct from the aircleaner system. spray directly into the valve opening. it is a small component with 2 small hoses . Sludge build up and oil deposits will dirty the valve. If that does not work you can remove it and spray directly into the 2 holes on the underside of the valve. Clean the air filter or replace it.if that is not it, then it is probably the EGR valve.

Trouble starting

Your starter contacts are bad. You have 2 options: Replace the starter assembly, or remove the starter & replace the internal solenoid contacts & the solenoid plunger. This is a common problem with Toyota starters; I replace contacts 3-4 times a week.
