The 93 and 94 1L engines are interchangeable EXCEPT for some 'extended' engine parts. The throttle bodies are different, intake manifold sensors may be different, 02 sensor is different, and the timing belt/gears may be different. 93s with four bolts in the crankshaft pulley have square toothed belt/sprockets. Five bolt versions have round toothed belt/sprockets. All 94s have round tooth.

As long as they are the same type of engine ( I believe they should both be 1.0L 3 cyl engines). Most parts for the Geo Metro from 1992 to 1994 interchange with out a problem.

Does a 1996 Geo Metro have the same engine as a 1997 Geo Metro?

join a metro forum,

few cars on earth had one engine , most have options
the metro had 3.
so if both cars had the same engine , are they the same.
is the real question.
read the wiki on geo metro.
here is one other issue , quoted
1997 featured the four-cylinder engine with a new sixteen-valve head (rather than the eight valves of the earlier design)

that means the EFI is different and head. (at least)

if you replace or swap just the power steering motor there is nothing else you need to do,,but if you replace a control module you might need to program it,,,some new module come empty and u need to program it,,,and other ones that are used and u swap it need to be relearn to the car or you might get a check engine light on,,,,for it not being learned by the other modules,,they talk to each other

I have a 95 geo metro with a 1.3 ingine. THe check engine light was out so i replaced it now the light blinks all the time that the car is running. cods are as folows. code 51 code 23 and code 31.. engine...

I'm guessing the cat convertor is stopping up , if the car sat anytime the fuel pump is probably about stopped up or your fuel filter. Go with the simple stuff first, fuel filter, check Throttle Position Switch position if you swapped it out. Also the oxygen sensor is a prime suspect , should be replaced every 60k miles or so.

94 SL1 , wont accelerate with used tranny put in recently

Check Fluid level first. If that's O.k check to see if it's the correct trans.Physically the SOHC & DOHC Trans Look The Same But they are geared different. If you put a twin cam trans into a single cam car or visversa it will not shift into 2nd 3rd or 4th.MP6 For SOHC MP7 For Twin Cam.Also 93,94 trans for 93,94 olny 95-02 swap.Good Luck Hope This helps

Swapped motor in '94 metro 4 cyl.

Check the mass airflow sensor and the throttle position sensor - either of those would cause similar problems if they're reading incorrectly.
