High idle could be caused by a vacuum leak. If the car has cruse control, plus with it's age, it could very well be a vacuum leak. Check all your vacuum hoses going to and from the cruse control and the vacuum container. Also having a car die one night and needing to be jumped off the next day could be the alternator but it could also be a dead cell in the battery. Look at your battery. (if it has a cover on it, remove the battery cover) if the sides of the battery have a slight bulge in them, the battery could be going bad. Also if your "Maintenance free battery" is over 7 years old, your battery could very well be bad.

Hope that helps!

84 nissan pickup will not idle down from 3500 rpm

The first thing to do is check the engine for vacuum leaks, use a can or Carb cleaner, spray around the top near the intake gaskets and see if the engine idle changes, if it does you have a leak.

Idle problem on v6 ba astina hunts from 1000/1500 revs

Engine stall or RPM fluctuates at idle.

This problem is commonly caused by a dirty automatic idle speed control valve and throttle valve. Buy a can of throttle valve cleaner (do not use carburetor spray cleaner!) from NAPA or Carquest (made by CRC chemicals) and spray it into the air intake while the engine is running, use up about 1/2 the can, engine will try to stall hold the speed up, shut it down and let it soak for 30 minutes, restart and blow out the remaining fluid, shut it down and disconnect the negative battery cable for 5 Min's to reset the base idle control

I got a 1994 chevy with a throttle body 0n a 350 motor and it is idling from a 1000 rpm to 1500 rpm anyone know what causes this

You either have a vacuum leak somewhere, or the TPS throttle position sensor has malfunctioned.

84 toyota pickup will not idle just happened on the way home from work, runs at higher rpm turns off if idling

have your TPS sensor looked at since that controls your idle and rpms. It sounds like it's causing your rpms to drop too low

I have the same problem...

Minimum is usaully 10-13 lbs at idle. A good rule of thumb is 10 lbs per 1,000 rpms.
