Rotate cam pulley very carefully until exhaust & intake valves on cyl. # 1 are closed there should be a dot or arrow or line on cam pulley/sprocket.

My 1995 subaru legacy wont idle after changeing timeing belt

If the vehicle was idling proper before timing belt replacement, it is possible the valve timing is not correct due to belt not being installed/lined up properly. If belt was changed because it was broken, chances are there is valve damage internal to the engine causing this issue

1998 Subaru Legacy L - Is there a timing belt?

yes, there is a big belt and it is a job to replace, remove just about everything up front, radiator, timing covers, fan, belts, pulleys, hoses, etc, I think you change the water pump at the same time, not sure, But get the new belt with timing marks on it, they come in real handy, clamp the cams so they don't retract, before pulling the belt, put a pin in the belt tensioner hole if it has one, then pull the belt off, align all the marks, they have to be perfect, or don't bother. When it is all set to the marks, release the tension on the tensioner and spin the engine by hand with spark plugs removed , a couple times, when it comes around to one mark again, check them all, they all should be right on the mark. If you can't find a belt with the marks on it already, mark the old belt, with a white out pen or junk yard pen, relay the marks to the new belt. Then try it, it is most important that they line up. Crank and cams, all have marks on them. Hope this helps.

Timing belt broke and need timing marks diagram 2.2 subaru

the timing marks are on the camshaft pulleys and there are 2 notches on each pulley> they line up with 2 marks on the engine block for each pulley> and the crankshaft has a notch that lines up with a mark on the engine block aswell> pluss the new timing belt will have white marks on it that will line up with all of the marks on the pulleys when they are in the right place so its nearly impossable to do it wrong

I have a 1995 subaru lagacy that needs cam seals, I have relative good mechanical skills as in I have removed engines, replaced head gaskets and timing belts. How big a job is it to replace the cam seals?

Very simple job for you based on your described abilities. If you have the EJ-25 motor it is a little involved but not a hard job. Do your self a favor and when removing the Timing belt make sure you put it at TDC and line the marks correctly so assembly will go much smoother. Good luck and have a great day.

Change cam belt on 1995 legacy

If your going to do or get this done you need to replace the camshaft seals crankshaft seal and water pump plus the idlers and tensioner.
If its a quad cam you might just want to leave it to the pro's........
