Question about 2002 Kia Sedona

Sluggish Transmission when cold

My 2002 Kia Sedona is very sluggish when its cold. For at least 1 km it is very unresponsive.

also when I reverse and put it into drive it often jerks and sometimes takes a few seconds to engage.

I checked the transmission fluid and it seems fine.

I have the same problem with the jerking. I seems to shake and carry on more between 50 and 60 miles per hour, and just doesn't seem to want to go when it is cold.It also jumps when it is idling.

You need to change the transmission fluid and filter as soon as possible. Being sluggish when cold is a sign of a very clogged up filter.

Less pickup in the beginning and runs smooth above 50km/hr

Immediate Service required. Check transmission oil. It's either wrong oil type or oil level is too low. Automatic transmission oil needs to be replaced every 60.000 km.
until then don't go too fast and accelerate moderately.

2002 Durango transmission sluggish when shifting from 1st to 2nd gear. I was told that the Transmission needs flushed and new Fluid added

Usually if the trans is acting up new fluid isn't going to change a thing, that's usually a ploy to get you to spend some money, just what I have seen.. Q: does the trans act up more or less when hot or cold, if there is a difference with temp then changing the fluid isn't going to help you, but that's my opinion, I been a dodge tech for 17 years but anything is possible with cars......

SLUGGISH TRANSMISSION

Discribe sluggish. Changing the fluid has nothing to do with shift stratagy or correct trans operation. Change the filter every time you do the fluid, unless your just pulling the plug every year or so,to change some fluid.
These vehicles have a tendency to have a bad Trans Solenoid Pack. If it bangs into reverse or shifts funny around 35 to 40 on a slight hill, that part may be going bad.
You need a proper working EGR Valve and TPS (Throttle Position Sensor) also.
Don't forget to flush the Power Steering Fluid--although unrelated to the trans.

Trans--Mercon V Fluid
Steering--Mercon (Not V)

FINDING THE LOCTION OF INPUT SPEED SENSOR ON KIA

The speed sensor is located on the right side facing the driver side. It is on the transmission under the air filter and air line that leads to the intake manifold. It is on the left side of the transmission. It is not on top of the transmission but on the left side of the transmission close to the firewall. It is best to raise the car and locate it from underneath.

Reverse Gear is Sluggish and makes noise.

I would say you should re check if you have 2nd and 4th. If not you need to have the sun shell replaced in the transmission. this is a comon problem. I hope this helps.

Speedometer/Transmission problem when car is cold

I would take this car and get the transmission fluid and filter changed ASAP. Acting sluggish when cold is a sign of a dirty transmission filter.
