Question about 2004 Chevrolet TrailBlazer

2003 Trailblazer Transfer Case Control Module.

My 4 wheel drive is out and a transmission shop said my TCCM is dead. Where is it located and is this a dealer item only? I currently am not working and income is limited. Can I get a used item and install myself? The shop quoted $373.00 to install and $125.00 for a dealer to set. Is this reasonable?

The t case control module is inside the vehical driver side its like a small computer that comunicates from the manual switch to the motor that engages 4wd thats on the t case. buy it install it and you have to get it reprogramed part is about 200-299 depends on where you shop and a reprogram is about 80 at a dealer

It is located on the top of the trnsfer case, it has a plug going into it, just go buy the new one, at autozone, will be much cheaper, use a 18MM wrench and turn the sensor out and put the new one in.

Hint, it is the one top dead center of the transmission.

Stuck in 4 wheel Drive High but no lights are lit


Hi Jimi , There are very specific diagnostic procedures to follow for diagnosing this system. First a good visual inspection of the transfer case an fluid level an wiring connections. The transfer case shift control module is equipped with the ability to store diagnostic information, which is useful to a technician in the event of module, component or wiring failures. This information can be retrieved from the transfer case shift control module by way of flash codes, which are displayed on the three transfer case shift control switch buttons. These buttons are located on the instrument panel to the right of the steering wheel Before obtaining DTCs, perform the following transfer case control module (TCCM) Self-Test.
TCCM Self-Test
  1. Observe the transfer case shift control switch indicators while turning the ignition switch to RUN. A properly operating system will flash all indicators and then will return to the current gear. If the system is operating normally, then proceed to Displaying Codes.
  2. If the TCCM failed the Self-Test, then test the following circuits.
  3. ?€¢
    Battery Positive Voltage (40 and 1640), and Ignition 3 Voltage for battery voltage


    ?€¢
    Ground Circuit for ground


    ?€¢
    Diagnostic enable circuit for an open or high resistance


    ?€¢
    Transfer case shift control switch connector

  4. If the above circuits are normal but the TCCM still fails the Self-Test, replace the TCCM. Refer to Transfer Case Shift Control Module Replacement .
DTC Displaying
  1. Turn OFF the ignition for 10 seconds.
  2. Connect PIN 13 on the data link cable (DLC) to a ground. The DLC is located in the cab under the instrument panel on the driver's side.
  3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  4. Observe the transfer case shift control switch select buttons for flashing codes. Refer to Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) List .
Important: If the transfer case shift control switch buttons all blink only once and then stop, no fault codes are stored in the transfer case shift control module.

When one DTC is stored in memory, that code will blink that number of times followed by a 3 second pause and then repeat.

If more than one code is stored, the first code will blink, followed by a 3 second pause and then the second code will blink.

This sequence will continue until PIN 13 on the DLC is no longer grounded.

If the TCCM will not communicate the presence or absence of DTCs, test the above circuits in Self-Test Step 2. If the circuits are complete, then replace the TCCM. Refer to Transfer Case Shift Control Module Replacement .

The 2002 model year had a problem with the TCCM (Transfer Case Control Module) sometimes not "waking up" and flaky software. Another reason for the warning light coming on is a weak or slow transfer case actuator module. A technician with a highend scan tool should be able to diagnose the problem.

The simple answer is to replace the TCCM (transfer case control module).
Being both cheap and inquisitive, I wanted to investigate further, and I will provide a more in-depth answer.

This answer pertains to various GM vehicles. These include the Chevy Blazer, GMC Jimmy, S10, S15, Sonoma vehicles from 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, & 2005.
Specifically the 15748800 module for the NP8 option 4 button automatic 4X4 NVG-236/246 transfer case.

I doing research online, I find that 15154323 might be an alternate TCCM, and that GM redesigned the module and now sells the replacement for this module with a 12577412 part number for about $300.

This information refers to the 15748800 module.

If the driver attempts to switch the transfer case into any other mode, the transfer case makes noise as it shifts, the service 4x4 light comes on and the newly selected mode indicator light starts to flash.

Pin F4 should be monitored with either a lamp or meter. This pin should be high or 12 volts when in 2 wheel drive, and low or ground when in 4 wheel drive.
A quick test of the system is to ground the F4 pin, recycle the ignition, and try shifting the transfer case into and out of 4 wheel drive. ( I used a lamp based test light to be safe. Do not an LED based one.) If the mode indicator light remains steady and the Service 4X4 does not light, proceed with this repair procedure. If this does not resolve the issue, please proceed to troubleshoot the front vacuum system, 4X4 solenoid, 4X4 actuator, front axle, or front axle indicator switch.

If this test appears to resolve the issue, you will need to remove the TCCM module from the vehicle. Bend the 8 tabs away from the back cover. Remove the top cover, unscrew the board from the back cover / plate. turn over the board at a static safe work station, and measure the indicated 10,000 ohm SMD resistor. In this module, the resistor is required to operate near it's limits, and I believe that the conformal coating trapped heat and caused the resistor to fail. You can check other resistors nearby for a relative comparison. If found to be open, the resistor can be replaced with a higher power value 10,000 ohm SMD resistor, or a conventional 10,000 ohm resistor with wired leads.

The TCCM should be checked for corrosion on the connectors and cleaned if nessacary. The module can then be restored to the vehicle, and your 4X4 should work normally.

04 Trailblazer LS won't go into 4WD. Front hubs don't engage with switch in cab. It will gear down to 4wd Lo but front wheels won't engage. Please help. Can't afford the dealer!


What do the lights on the 4x4 selector switch do when you switch to A4WD or $HI or 4LO positions? Do they blink and revert to previous selection? Has the Transfer Case fluid been changed at 50K intervals?
There are actuators on the Transfer Case and Front Differential that control the application of power to the front wheels. These actuators are controlled by the TCCM (Transfer Case Control Module). It takes a qualified 4 wheel drive technician to diagnose these systems.

The 4 wheel drive won't lock in the transfer case locks but not the axles


Try taking fuse #8 out of the fuse box for a minute, sometimes this will reset your TCCM. If not, check your Transfer Case Control Module or TCCM. These tend to go bad.

Four-wheel drive not working. No light on swtich. New transfer case motor. Checked the fuses and the four-wheel drive switch. What can it be?


Was the transfer case fluid changed every 50K miles? This very important on these trucks. The Transfer Case Control Module (TCCM) could be at fault, especially since you have no lights on the selector switch. Is the Service 4x4 light on? When you switch from 2H to any of the 4 wheel drive selections, do you hear any actuator noises coming from under the truck?

2002 chey trailblazer 4by4 light on the swich stay on 2 wheel drive if i put into 4 wheel drive or all wheel drive and one light flash on where ever i put the swich on. feels like is goes in 4 wheel high...


The Transfer Case Control Module (TCCM) in this model year have been known to hang up, try pulling fuse #48 (4WD) in the rear fuse panel located under the left rear seat. Reinstall fuse and see if everything works OK, if not, you probably need to replace the TCCM.

2004 silverado 4 wheel drive does not work, 4 wheel high button remains lit, will not change to any other button


1. Inspect Transfer Case Control Module (TCCM) and encoder/motor wiring, terminal contact, grounds.

2. Install updated TCCM calibration.

3. Inspect for TCCM water intrusion.
4. Replace transfer case encoder/motor. 1. Check voltage on pin A, Light Blue wire at the engage switch.

2. The voltage should remain near 1.0v with no buttons pushed, compare to the value on the scanner when the problem happens.

3. Back close to the switch by hand and check for a glitch.

4. Wiggle tug test harnesses at the switch and TCCM.

5. Check terminal to pin grip. could be your transfercase control module locater under drivers side of dash. or the encoder motor

99 tahoe stuck in 4 low. it went to 4 low by itself. tccm makes a cliking sound when truck is started.


The 4 wheel drive system has 3 main parts. The switch on the dash,the encoder motor which is on the transfer case, and the TCCM or transfer case control module. If you keep it simple, the only one of these parts that can make the transfer case do something by it's self is the TCCM. However, the most replaced part at my shop is the encoder motor.
Have someone do a diagnostic check and see what codes are present. If it is a C0327 DTC, it is the encoder motor circuit malfunction. If a C0374 code is present, it's the TCCM.
