Car making ticking sounds.

My car is making a ticking sound but will not start. Lights come on dimmly and car radio plays. Could it be my starter or alternator? For the past couple of days ago it was stalling to go up heals or pick up speed.

When your car starts stalling for a couple of days, your battery is going dead. Either the battery is going bad or your alternator is bad. My money is on a dead battery. They usually show up at the onset of winter...Take your battery to autozone or any auto parts store, they will check it for free. They will also check your alternator..

Hi weaver-willi,
My name is Dennis and I can be of assistance.
The ticking (clicking) sound is the starter solenoid clicking to complete (close) the starter electrical circuit and to insert the starter pinion in the flywheel ring gear but the starter motor does not have enough amperage available to turn the starter motor.
All this to say you have corroded battery terminals. I know this sounds stupid but think about it, The battery circuit as enough current to power the radio but not the higher current demands like head lights. Clean the battery terminals of resistance causing corrosion and the car will start and your other ignition problems will go away also.
Glad to be of assistance. Please rate the solution because I can learn from your rating.
Thank you
Dennis

When I try starting the car, it makes a fast ticking noise....the batery is good cause everything turns on with it but when I ignite, it ticks. Is it the starter?

THat is the starter my friend but why dont u try to jump start the car and see if this helps. That most likely sounds like a bad battery to me. As you are hearing the starter still is trying to go but doesn't have enough power to kick its gear into the flywheel.

Cart wont start lights come on radio turns on just ticking noise when trying to start

Sounds like a weak battery, check the connection's have some one load test it for you, if it stays in the good range I would go ahead & replace the starter, the ticking sound is the starter solenoid/bendix unit trying to engage but cannot due to wear.

My car wont start but my dash and radio lights up,

still sounds like battery not holding enough charge or poor connection at battery, if thesre ok then will be starter motor.

I know this sounds stupid but think about it, The battery circuit as enough current to power the radio but not the higher current demands like head lights when you use the seat motor at the same time. Clean the battery terminals of resistance causing corrosion and the car will start and your other ignition problems will go away also. AFTER they are clean REATTACH them and cover them with a light coating of grease to keep the oxygen off and they will corrode less.
