Question about 1999 Jeep Cherokee

1 Answer

1999 Cherokee Laredo-v8

Trying to remove starter. I have unbolted it but it looks like the exhaust system and the suspension system is in the way of getting it out. Is there any easy way to completely remove the starter from the car?

There should be a way to take it out. You have to turn it in different positions and try to remove it.

Hi,
a 6ya Mechanic can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repair professionals here in the US.

Disconnect battery.
Unbolt starter, move it down a bit.
Now unbolt wires (two of them).
Now wiggle starter around and get it out. On 99-04 grand cherokee the front wheels need to be on ground (or on a ramp) or the drooping suspension gets in the way.

Get yourself a service manual with step by step instructions and diagrams. A good place is www.promanuals.net. $20 bucks or so for a factory one.
