Google Chrome interrupted me and sent off an incomplete response,
As I was saying, 'Dealer added' clearcoat is doomed to failure according to an expert automotive painter I knew who did only high-end repainting on expensive vehicles.
He claimed that unless the clearcoat was applied over paint that had not yet cured, it would not bond to the paint underneath of it. It could behave like two unrelated layers and the clearcoat, not having a molecular bond with the paint below it, could shatter and separate for several reasons; temperature changes and (as it was in my case) exposure to salt air were two of these.   I doubt that Volvo will do anything for your car since cosmetics are considered secondary to mechanical failure and after 16 years, they may consider the complaint petty.

It will live until it dies. Most common cause for engine failure is a failure for the owner to maintain the engine properly. I have a customer with 1,000,000+ miles on a Volvo. Every maintenance item done like clockwork.

I'm thinking of purchasing a used 01 Volvo S-60. There are 2 problems with this vehicle. 1) the service air bag light is on and 2) the switch for heat/air will only perform on low. Is this a easy fix or...

most common for the heater switch is a blower motor resistor or the switch itself. I would say its prob the swithc as when the resistor goes the motor usually tends to only work on high. As for the air bag light, you will need to get it scanned and give me a code and i can lead you to the proper repair and approx cost to you. However i dont think either of those are inspectiable but I could be wrong. I dont live in your state. Also even with those problems if car is rust free and less than 200000 miles its work quite a bit. Those cars when maintained properly will turn over 400,000 plus miles.

Used Mercedes Benz GL450 2007

over 80% of mercedes ever made are still on the road in use, only volvo can beat this fact with over 90%.
keep it serviced at 10k intervals, and it should last 30 plus years.
bodywork is galvanised,so look after paintwork(1 dent/scratch will knock over $1000 off the price...)only buy if full leather and keep it fed.

No. It's never a good idea to take your car to the dealer unless is a problem that falls under an electrical or physical malfunction that would be still under warranty. A standard oil change and tune up on a well maintained vehicle shouldn't run you over $100-$150 at most.

Generally gasoline is reformulated in the fall until mid-winter and it is not uncommon to notice a significant drop in mileage. If the vehicle has been maintained and has not had a problem recently, and is not displaying other symptoms - like smoking or performance problems - the best thing to do is wait till spring and see if it picks up again. You may even notice a placard on gas pumps saying gas is reformulated during winter months.

Do jeep V8 engines last beyond 100k miles?

V8 engine,on the norm, will last a good long time,if they have been taken care of,and continue being maintained.Highway miles of course are always a plus, when asking about the vehicle,if the truth be told, but look, listen, and drive is the best way to be sure of what you are buying, the ignition switch is a good place to observe, the lock, and key cylinder,is it worn>is the key worn?the wrighting on the key,and it`s trademarks, are they still there,or worn off,and how bad? This will tell you if it was a start and go vehicle,or not, could be a vehicle that was drove long distances instead of short stop and go .

1000,000 miles is nothing for a Volvo 240. I sold one running well for $1400 with 235,000 miles ( and bought another used Volvo) The cars are built like bricks. To answer your question: The power windows might be fixed using some silicone spray. Easy ands cheap. The AC could just need a recharge. If not, the compressor is about $900. Sunroof, forget it. New tires - $450 all around for good ones. Paint? If its an issue, go to Maaco. If not, drive it, like I drove mine and forget about the paint. You will get 24-28 mpg on your used Volvo, and will probably keep it for four years. They run forever with little maintenance. Except for the tires and the a/c the other stuff seems minor.
