Car cut off without warning as if gas ran out although there is still a quarter tank of gas. I've checked fuel pump by removing the fuel line as it exits the fuel filter and gas pumps out with each turn of the key. I next checked for spark and there was only spark from the left coil. I replaced the right coil but still no spark. Could this be cause or can it be a timing belt problem?
Sounds like the same thing I ran into (again mine is a Mits Mir 2001). I guess I'm late in replying though. Never knew about this site. Anyway, its probably the timing belt. My car died too just like it ran outta fuel. However I made the mistake of cranking the engine. That's a bad idea, you may end up damaging the engine.

Wouldn't happen to be a diesel, would it? If so, do a search on ebay for a remote fsd/pmd module. Fixed my 95 'rado (in less than 20 minutes) with a 6.5 turbo diesel -it would stall wherever and whenever it wanted, without warning.
If the fuel gauge drops off when you are driving then its a sending unit problem that means you have to drop the tank and replace the float and sending unit. This is a common problem for alot of cars because of cheap gas. If you have to drop the tank check the fuel pump canster for dirt because of cheap gas. Replace the fuel pump strainer and fuel pump filter. If the car or truck has about 100,000 miles you might want to change the fuel pump at that time also just to cover your back. If you take it to a shop they will charge you at least $900 to start. But if you do it yourself it will cost you about $200 dollars maybe alittle more.
had same problem with 00 dodge neon between half and quarter tank going up steep hills it would lose power and stumble,at quarter it would start to stumble and stall.fuel filter was completly blocked after changing fuel filter it would not stall, when gas tank was low fuel pressure would go down, changed fuel pump and it did it
Check the fuel pump fuse, (20 amp yellow fuse in the lower left corner of the group). If that is not blown, turn the key on and pound hard on the bottom of the fuel tank. The fuel lubricates the fuel pump, once it runs dry, the pump can lock up. Once the pump is immersed in fuel again, a sharp jolt will unstick it and let it pump up to pressure again. If it locks up for too long, the pump will burn out and need replaced.
We found this out by accident, got mad and pounded on the bottom of the tank and the pump jumped to life.
1.) press the the axcellerator straight down to the board
2.) tumble a few times.. and it should start.
other possiblities besides a flooded cab is
1.) drugs from the fuel tank clogged up the lines or the carburator
thiss will happen when its running low and if the tank is rusted inside.. very hard to detect without removing the tank..
2.) the fuel pump could be clogged up as well..
The clicking sound you might be hearing could possibly be the starter.. It may not have enough power to start. Check your battery to ensure its good. if the battery is dead you may need to get it charged or get a jumper cable and a jump. but for the battery to run dry means that the alternator isnt functioning propperly. once the car is started, remove the + battery pole while the car is idling and see if it stalls or cuts off. if it does get the alternator checked... Personally i'm betting its the battery.
I wanted to just give a suggestion...do you go to the same gas station to get gas? My sentra ran horrible because I kept going to this same gas station. My gas would get low and it would start cutting off and trying to cut off. I let my fuel go to almost empty and then went to another gas station to fill up. It hasnt cut of for about 6 months now and I havent returned to that gas station.
