Gearbox was rebuilt in 2001 after only having the car for a year and it having done only 56,0000k's. Their has been no sign of problems when shifting gears that I am aware of. Having been through this before it is slightly different in that we had prior warning that something was not right. All fluids checked and ok. If it is the gearbox again will not be repairing.

First thing I would check the oil level.( Car on Neutral and engine running and try to check it both at cold and hot). Remember to park the car on a flat surface.

Has the car been giving any signs of shift shock or delayed gear shift lately?

    Cheers

Holden suburban column auto...car won't go into reverse and takes a while to change to 2nd gear...is it major

It might be.
You should first change the gearbox oil and replace the gearbox oil filter, then retry.
If you are still having an issue, then check the vehicle's speed sensor and TCM.

I have a 93 Ford Falcon ED automaatic and the gear s won t change straight away

is it auto? if so check the fluid in it, run car to operating temperature, then check dip stick, too much or too little can cause gearbox to slip, if its taking a little longer and then snapping into gear check to see if the bands are slipping, may need to have bands tightened. gearbox service may fix it

OD on Auto gearbox goes into neutral when cold

You need to have your transmission serviced. The fluid has gotten so thick in there that it builds up too much pressure and your transmission will either kick it out of gear or blow up. I'm glad it actually still works. Once the oil warms up it thins right out and it works no prob. Just service your tranny, and you'll be fine.

Lost drive in auto gearbox v6 24 valve engine model speedo not moving when you acelerate in drive suspect torque converter

Does it move but the speedo doesnt work properly or at all? Unusual or no gear changes? Suspect the Vehicles Speed Sensor (VSS) on the gearbox.

If it doesnt move in any gear check the autobox fluid level, failing that get it checked for copdes, could be a few things
