I had this problem the sensor is bad, reed magnetic switch, unfortunately the overfill tank and switch are a perminate assembly. you could replace the switch with some creative thinking or replace the whole overfill tank.

Hi,

To my knowledge, most coolant level sensor is a very simple affair. It consists of two (2) prongs that measure the level and trigger the dashboard warning light once it falls below a certain level. The sensor is located in the coolant run-off/extension tank/reservoir/bottle. In some instances, it may need a bit of cleaning to remove coating and expose the metal prods. Of course the standard checks should still be employed such as checking the connector, wires, and even the fuses and the fuse holder.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information. Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

ensure that the radiator is full to that radiator cap. Check that the wiring to the coolant level sensor is intact as it needs a complete circuit through the unit and coolant to operate correctly.

Engine coolant hot sensor and idle engine sensor appear 5 minutes after driving. When I park car and shut it off I hear bubbling noises

Hello: The first thing is check the coolant level. Do this on a cold engine, if engine is a 4.9 check both the radiator and the overflow tank. Make sure they are full of coolant. If it is a Northstar engine then make sure the surge tank is full, this may require checking the tank again after bring the engine to operating temperature then let it cool off. DO NOT OPEN COOLING SYSTEM ON HOT ENGINE it could cause serious burns to you.

What does the light next to the security light mean on a 2001saturn SL\r\nIt is square with a t on top with wavy lines at the bottom inside the box

Hello: That light means either the cooling system is low on coolant and/or a failed coolant sensor. Check the surge tank under the hood if it is empty, fill it to the level indicated. If low it could mean the cooling system has a leak. If tank is full then possibly you have a failed sensor.

Replaced water pump, alternator, radiator, crank sensor and no coolant leaks and car has antifreeze, but why is low coolant dashboard indicator light keep flashing on 97 saturn sl2

Inside the coolant reserve tank there is a sensor for coolant level.

Over time, this sensor can get stick.

Inspect the coolant reserve tank for crack or leak.

Locate the coolant level switch/sensor and soak it in clean warm water.

Make sure it's free to move up and down the float path.

Top off the coolant tank with coolant only.

Low collant light is on and has no leak and is full

This problem is common, if the coolant level is OK, check the "coolant sensor" and clean the plug.

Low coolant light

In the surge tank, there is a sensor that detects the level of the coolant. It's most likely the sensor is stuck on the low position. All this sensor does is slide up and down as the coolant level goes up and down. You can tap the side of the surge tank near where the sensor plugs in and see if it will dislodge. You'll see the 2 wire plug at the bottom of the tank towards the front.
