Fuel and starter problem?

Drove the 2005 magnum to dinner the other night run fine ,when got back in it would stat and quit, done this 4-5 times then it just quit turning over, lights and everything come on just wouldn't engage the starter no more. is there some kind of relay and it seems it might of been the fuel pump has gone out, just haven't had time to look at it ,whats your thoughts on this problem.

i'm no new car mechinac but seems like the fuel pump is the main thing, since it would start and quit, and maybe a relay or fuse has kicked out or blown to keep the starter from kicking in , maybe a saftey relay to protect the starter, just thought thered be somebody on here that had the problem before

A couple of potential issues and/or solutions:

It sounds like the Senty Key Immobilizer Module (SKIM) did not recognize the key during startup and subsequently locked the engine down. Your dash should be indicating a "new" light, that is the anti-theft indicator.

First, call your dealer with your VIN and explain your problem. They should be able to provide another key.

I experienced this same problem about a year ago. The dealer suggested removal of the anti-theft fuse (I cannot remember the number) for about 15 to 30 minutes. After re-installation, I had no other problems.

Potentially, you may mimic this by removal of the negative battery terminal for about an hour to let the memory die, then try again, but not sure this is the same as fuse removal.

I will try to find the fuse number and re-post asap.

Your dealer may be able to provide the solution sooner.

Testimonial: "you hit it right on, after about a hr i tried to start it, with my other key and it does just fine now, thanks a ton for the fix. "

    Fuse number 14 (Red - 10 Amp)
    Sentry Key/Remote KeylessEntry/Cluster
    Location: Rear Fuse Distribution Panel

Procedure: Open rear hatch, lift false floor to expose fuse panel near battery. Pull fuse #14. Wait 15 minutes (just for good measure). Reinstall fuse. Then use Key FOB to lock and unlock door.

Attempt ignition sequence and let us know how it goes.

Outstanding! I am glad it worked. Now get that Magnum back on the road where it belongs!

SOURCE: I have a 2003 Dodge Caravan with a 3.3L it wont

Yes they do but I would rather think you have a bad battery cabe connection to the system, sometimes the battery cable corrudes and you can't see it try replacing the cable ends and the connector ends espically if they are by the battery.

SOURCE: Starter will not engage, tried tapping starter relay,

I think the relay you have been waking up is the starter solenoid. If so, these have heavy copper bars that carry the current for the starter that can be in the range of 120-180 amperes, in other words, a bunch. These can decay (they 'burn' developing spikes of copper that are blown away when the starter draws current) over time and I too have whacked them to get momentary contact too but it will likely need replacement. If it is integrated with the starter, the starter will have to be replaced since I doubt if parts are available to replace the contacts; they once were, I've done it but it has been decades since then.

The fuel may have leaked back to the fuel tank, check the return valve at the fuel pump.

05 Dodge Magnum went from 60 - 0mph in 0.0 seconds flat!!!

Sounds like you need a new key to me. When they start and die like that, the security system is not seeing a good key. This has to be done at a Dodge or Chrysler dealership. They can cut a new key and fob combo their as well as program them with their scan tool. It will cost about $200.00 to do this. The two cranks to start is a weak fuel pressure regulator. Probably located on the the fuel pump. May be serviced seperate now from the fuel pump assembly. Ask the dealer they will know.

low oil on some models will stop it from starting however I would say you have a fuel filter stoped up this happens sometimes when you run a car out of gas they pick up trash,

Tes fuel pressure and if your fuel pump is working; test battery charge, starter and solenoids.

I think you should check your battery and alternator. If they both check good you may have a battery draw, something draining the battery over night.Check your doors make sure they are closing like they should.

Car Runs and Loses Power and Quits Running

Try cleaning the fuel pump filter. Under the seat behind the driver lift the carpet and you will find a round cover with six screws remove the cover. The fuel pump is directly below unscrew the retaining round plate and remove the pump. At the base of the pump is a small filter if it is covered in black muck that's your problem. clean and replace. job takes about 10 mins good luck. please let me know how you got on!

No Power sometime, Engine Light is Flashing

If fuel filter hasn't been done lately I would start there & if you can, have fuel pressure tested while your at it. You may have tired fuel pump but pressure test will confirm. If you recently filled up somewhere different last time you got gas, I'd also try some "Heet" or similar just incase you got a tank full with some water in it.
