Question about 2003 Ford Windstar

1 Answer

2003 ford windstar

My wife drove our 2003 ford windstar to work and parked it no problem. When she left the car started but the transmission would not engage in any gear, forward or reverse. I could see the shift rod moving under thge hood. The car runs but just will not move. Can you give me an idea what the problem is so i can make a suggestion when i take it to the dealer for service.

Thank you

We were going up the escarpment, and we lost all of the gears. There was just a whining of gears when you put it into park

What is the selector link, and where is located? It is too complicate to fix a 1995 Windstar transmission?

Check your transmission fluid level if at all possible. If your fluid is low you won't be able to engage any gears as there isn't enough pressurized fluid to shift the clutch or selector in the transmission box. If that's fine, next check the selector link and check it is connected to the transmission (not totally unheard of for it to come loose). Still no joy then it's the clutch...sorry.

My truck will not go forward buit will go backward

Check if your parking brake is on. You can usually back up with a parking brake on, but not go forward. If it was partially engaged, it might have warmed up from friction as you drove, until it started to grab. If that isn't it, you probably have a major transmission problem.

The transmission has failed, there is a class action law suit aginst Ford for transmission problems like yours, they go maybe 30-60,000 between overhauls, they are poorly designed, I lost count of how many I pulled out for repair at the Ford dealer I worked at for 20 years.
