Does the CV drive assembly slide out of the transmission like it would when you remove a driveshaft?

Simple job basically jack up car place stands for your own safety unbolt the cv mounting bolts around 6 to 7 each end near rubber boots then take one cv with you to ensure you a buying the right replacement fit new cv and NEW bolts back on to car tighten good but be careful not to break bolts and after 100km recheck that the bolts are still tight good luck

ok no worries the cv joints are a steel shaft that run from the rear of the wheels to to gearbox they are easy to spot they are around about 30cm long a round steel rod with a black rubber boot on both ends near the rubber boot there is a series of bolts with attach to the wheel hub and the other end attaches to gearbox undoing these bolts will allow you to remove the cv s from the car glad to help just ask

Depending on where the noise is coming from, it could be a CV axle joint.

1996 Toyota Camry LE. Took it to the shop to have the CV joints replaced, both of them. Mechanics are unable to get either side axles out of the transmission. They have tried using heat, impact hammer,...

There is a small "circlip"holding the axle in place. Place a pry bar between the cv joint and the transmission and pry the axle out with a sharp snapping movement. This should pop the axle loose from the "circlip". The steering wheel can be turned to gain more working room. Tell those guys to lay off the heat. Hopefully no damage was done and they will be able to get the new axles in without too much trouble. Merry Christmas.

What's involved in changing a cv joint in a 2000 Rav 4? I have very good mechanical abilities & have changed cv joints before (about 10 years ago)

Easy enough job really, jack car up, put axel stand under. remove wheel - remove hub nut, remove pinch bolt - prise open the pinch bolt part (sorry cant rem name) pop out the hub from the lower arm. Remove CV join from drive shaft. Usually a tap will pop it out.. sometimes theres a circlip that need removing (models vary). Grease up new CV joint - put grease in new boot, pop boot over drive shaft. put cv join on (replace circlip if provided in kit). join cv to hub - attach CV boot fully. fasten hub nut, replace wheel.

done. might need tracking again or aligning once you do this.

Mechanical knocking or clicking noise during lowspeed turns 1996 840 wagon

It is a front-wheel-drive car, right? It sounds like the CV joints are starting to go bad. CV joints connect the driveshafts of the engine to the front axles: they are basically very fancy versions of traditional 'U-joints' found on rear-drive cars. They are protected by a big rubber boot, which eventually gets ripped or whatever, then dirt gets in, which starts to grind away at the joint. It's probably $500 to replace the CV joints, maybe more on a Volvo. The good thing is, the sound will get much, MUCH worse before it actually falls apart and leaves you stranded. So you have some time before you HAVE to get it repaired.

Good Luck!

1991 toyota camry front drivers side makes noise while driving

It's the left front wheel bearing. Take it to your favorite mechanic if you have one, any good tech can do it, but he/she could run into complications with a car of that age. (The hip bone's connected to the thigh bone, the thigh bone's connected to the knee bone, etc, and there's probably a good share of corrosion down there).

97 toyota celica outer cv boot replacement passenger side

have you undone the main hub bolt, if yes, there could be two different items holding the cv joint on, one is a small circlip in the joint end, or the other is just like an expanding metal ring again only small. what i had to do to change my one was take the driveshaft out (easier to see whats there) then gently (rubber hammer) hit the CV joint it should then fall off to allow you to change the CV joint. I spent over an hour trying to get the metal ring off, then after taking driveshaft off it was changed and back on in ten mins. Or you can go to a motor factors or similar and get a boot puller, my opinion hammer works better lol
