Question about 1991 Ford F150

1 Answer

Bogs when accelerating from an idle, rough starts.

I drive a 1991 F150 5.8 351. When its at an idle, it bogs upon accelerating, then picks back up. The idle is also fairly unstable right after its started. I have changed the MAP sensor, TPS, and the idle air control valve. any ideas as to what may be wrong?

Listen for a vaccum leak.also try disconecting bat for 5 min the reconnect and start truck and hold idle at 1500-2000 for 5 min. this resets and teaches computer to self adjust

When i start my jeep in the cold mornings it starts up but bogs right down and stalls then i have to accelerate for the second start up for a few minutes to warm it up a little and then it bogs and stays...

Your only problem friend, is the temperature sending unit/sensor. Upon cold start, this sensor wil tell the computer to go into cold start mode putting a bit more fuel in and raising the idle a bit to keep it running when cold without using the throttle. Replace that sensor and your good to go. Makes sense, right?

Car won't pick up speed on acceleration

You're not getting enough fuel. You should check your fuel pressure. If you have enough fuel pressure, your injectors are probably clogged up. Run a lot of fuel cleaner through your tank when you put gas in and see if it makes any difference. Lucas fuel treatment is the best to use.
