i have a lexus rx300 99 and the transmisson does not shift after 60mph it goes up to 75 before the engine slow its self down the rpm climp up to 6thousand rpms what can it be
i just had that problem recently, your car is running on safe mode, most likely your knock sensor is bad, so your car is running very rich and the gears not shifting. on the lexus rx300 their are 2 knock sensors on top of the block and under the intake manifold. let me know if you need help on how to replace it. i'll guide you through. email at mcheesm@gmail.com part is about 180 a piece. and you have two. diagnose it with obd2 diagnostics and it will show you code on which one to replace if you dont have much money but its better to replace both at the same time.

-   I had that problem on the rx until today. I went to a Toyota mechanic he said turn the car on I did he looked at the over drive light it was on and said overdrive off. He had me push the over drive button on the shifter ans said drive the the rx300 it worked not quite 2500 RPM at 65mph I was happy. Maybe your overdrive off light on the speedometer console is burnt out.

I started rx300 as usual, but engine started to rev high, tried to turn off and would not! Took key out and still nothing. stood on brake and also engaged safety brake.. finally shut down with a few little pauses in the engine.
