I just replaced my pump in my 97 tahoe a month ago but i did not replace the filter like an idiot,So my girl friend and i were out the other night and my truck just shuts off at the light no warning signs at all...Well i got under it pounded on the tank while she turned it over and she started.I figuered the new pump went bad because i never changed the filter it was probably making the pump work to hard or somthing.Well i went the next day and got a new pump w/ a new filter (had to cut the old one out) I installed the pump in no time... Went to fire it up and would not fire!!! I can hear the pump plain as day ..I actually drove it up on the ramps with the bad pump the same day ..... I dont know how to check the preassure,Can it be a bad pump "its Brand new" its not getting any gas in the intake at all .I did prime it myself thinking maybe that would work stayed running about 20 sec till gas ran out IM BOGGLED. New filter...New pump...did use a after market filter (Dont think that shoud Matter) Even went as far as bypassing the filter w/ a straight hose .Seems like the pump is working good > I even Disconnected the 2 fuel lines lines that appeard to be going right into the intake and it sprayed out all over the place ...I really dont want to pull that intake off but im not getting any gas through the injectors what else can i trouble shoot (did i miss anything? PLEASE HELP!!!!!

It is not the regulator if it has 40 lbs of pressure try to pinch off the return line and if pressure drops quickly it is either the check valve in the pump or the rubber seal between the pump and the sending unit

i would pull the pump and inspect you may only need the seal between the pump and the sender you should not have to replace the injectors or the fuel pressure regulator

In the am my engine will crank but wont start until i pump the gas peddel 20 times then it starts, and will start everytime all day next morning wont star In the am its like it isnt getting gas??

Pumping the gas pedal on a fuel injected car doesn't really do anything.
However, cranking the engine for an extended period of time could "pump up" the fuel pressure.
You should have about 35psi in the fuel line when you first crank the engine. If the pressure is low, it could take 30-60 seconds to build up that pressure to get the engine to start. Min pressure is around 35-40psi. The pump in the tank could be leaking pressure back into the tank overnight, or the pump relay could be faulty.

03 Tahoe Z71 Flex Fuel won't start and run. Engine turns over, fires, but won't start. I can hear the fuel pump run but it is not a steady sound like I would normally hear. I am getting a P0

It wouldn't hurt to check fuel pressure with a fuel pressure gauge. you should see somewhere around 48 - 55 psi. the test port is on the fuel rail about in the middle of the rail and on the drivers side.

If the fuel fuel pressure is low it wouldn't hurt to make sure there is power to the fuel pump before condemning it. Power is supplied to the pump by the larger of the two grey wires.

The fuel pump is located in the fuel tank and the fuel tank will need to be dropped from the vehicle in order to service the fuel pump.

If you decide to replace the fuel pump get an a/c delco or a delphi pump. These are the best two option for your vehicle. Do not get an airtex brand. They are not reliable pumps although they are cheap.

Let me know if you have any questions and thank you for using!

1997 Z71 5.7, cranks but wont start, spray a little either into the air duct and starts up and runs fine. Did notice when driving the fuel gauge spins around 360 degrees.

i would check the fuel pressure regulator. sounds like it doesn't regulate the proper amount of fuel without you having to spray the either. also, your gage could have a short it , i would check the wiring to it.

I have a 95 toyota 4runner 3.0. I just checked the fuel pressure and its around 40psi during idle but when I idle it up the pressure drops to around 10psi and it stumbles and wants to die. Im stumped, is...

It seems the fuel flow rate not the the pressure is the problem here. If you have checked all your fuel filters (including the one in the tank) and found them clear. And there is no kinks or obstruction in the fuel lines, then you will need to have the flow rate of the pump tested. The pump may have to be replaced. Check you pump relay too. It shopuld cause the pump to run for one second and stop until the engine fires. It may not be re-starting the pump again and the engine is trying to get by eith gravity feed.

I have a 2000 Ford Windstar. My problem is it will not start sometimes. I can crank it over it starts for a sec then dies. The only way I can keep it running is by keeping my foot on the gas pedal. please...

sounds like a fuel regulator or fule pump. your going to have to test the fuel pressure the port to hook a pressure tester is on the fuel rail. anything below 35-40psi you will need  to prob replace regulator

Chevy tahoe wont start its as if its not getting gas

If you think it is not getting gas, then it may not be. You would need to verify this by installing a fuel pressure gauge. This truck MUST have at least 55 PSI. Even a few LBS less, the truck will not start.
If you do not have pressure, or it is low, a plugged fuel filter or faulty fuel pump would be the most likely problem. If no pressure at all, a quick test to check the fuel pump is to have someone in the truck trying to start it, and you go under and bang on the gas tank with a hammer. Many times this will free up a sticking pump. But, it will fail again.

Won't Start

You need to run a fuel pump pressure drop test, after the engine is shut off the pressure should not drop more than 5 PSI, if it does the fuel pump check valve is defective and you will need to replace pump. You haven't picked up a tank of bad gass have you? it happens from time to time.
