Checked with auto store, they didn't know of a special in line tool. The other solution did not really apply because the fuel filter sits horizontaly to the engine at the rear of the car. Thanks

Ive unscrewed the fuel filter on the "nut" side. The other side however, with the "quick-connect" fitting is damaged. Three of the four plastic tabs have been broken off. The one that remains is not enough to engage the release. This is my problem. Ive tried with needle nose pliers to squeeze the base of the plastic peice together, but no luck. Im considering the option of cutting the "quick-connect" fitting out of the equation and reinstalling the line directly to the fuel filter. So, any sugestions? and thank you very much for your time.

The fuel filter is an inline filter on the Sunfire. On one end of the filter, there is a standard nut/flange fitting. On the other end is a "quick connect" fitting. The quick connect fitting has a plastic collar which is supposed to be depressed using thumb and forefinger. Then the filter is supposed to come off. On my car, the plastic collar is broken so that depression is not possible.

When I gave 1popcorn the "thanks for trying" rating, I was not trying to be rude or flip. His sollution may be perfect for some other situation. But it was not applicable to mine. In fact, the "inappropriate" rating might have been more apt. I do appreciate his trying, but it was of no help.

When you post a THANKS FOR TRYING rating most experts won't help anymore, we do this for free, a rating like that is a slap in the face.

Then whatever it takes, still haven't removed it? Explain what you are doing exactly.

There is two ways with a chisel or screwdriver and hammer hit the rim of filter closest to the engine in an anti clockwise position if this does not work belt a screw driver completely through the filter until sticking out other side place steel pipe over screwdriver handle and undo warning extremely messy this way but it works

Fuel filter on 97 ford explorer

Fuel Filter Replacement on 97 Explorer There's no trick, but you do need a special tool.

1. Remove the safety retainers from the fuel line/filter connections.

2. Install the special tool between the line & filter & slide it toward the filter to release the metal tangs that hold the line to the filter.

3. Slide the line off of the filter.

Guru is there any recourse I can take in that I was told the issue was a fuel pump and had it replaced.

Thats very good news. Be advised that on your vehicles system, the ten minute trick resets the vehicles TDM. If the problem happens again in the future, your TDM is failing. It should never need to be reset (ten minute trick) unless it is failing. Be thinking about getting this replaced or bypassed so you dont get caught off gaurd. Good luck. Happy things are working again.

When I start my car, there is a sound like the car is going to stall, but it doesn't. The car seems to hesitate and after a ****, it is fine. Could there be something wrong with my fuel injector?

fuel filter may need replacement, but you're on the right trail. try adding fuel injector cleaner to your fuel @ run for 20miles or so, give it a chance to run through the fuel system before you replace that injector. it usually does the trick.

How do I replace a fuel filter on a 2000 f-150?

you got to have a special tool to release the fuel lines, the tool slids between the fuel line and filter and opens a round spring to let the line slip over the filter flage.
