Battery/alternator problem My battery on my 93 mustang suddenly started draining. I replaced the battery, then replaced the alternator twice. the battery light still wont go out and the battery is still being drained.i dont know what else to do. the person that had the car before me has put a "kill" switch in for the fuel pump. could this be my problem. all these issues did not start until we were going down the road and my husband flipped the switch. at the time we didnt know what the switch was for. needless to say thats how we found out it goes to the fuel pump

Another thing to try is the plug that connects to the alternator. You can get it at an auto parts store and it is cheap.  We had the same problem with batteries and several alternators and all it ended up being is the small plug.

It's hard to know what the previous owner had in mind by installing a kill switch on the fuel pump. Was this to overcome some wiring problem?

You say the battery "suddenly started draining". can you recall anything else that might have happened about that time that might be associated with the "sudden battery drain"?

If you disconnect the ground battery lead can you see any small sparks when you touch the lead to the battery terminal? If you can detect any, this indicates something is drawing current from the battery.
Then remove one fuse at a time and check the presence of sparks again. maybe you might luck out and find which circuit (fuse) is causing the current drain. At least you might be able to isolate the problem

hope this helps Loringh

I suspect either a bad voltage regulator (should show up on the alternator test) or something is draining the battery when off. Draining a battery below 12V can cause un-repairable damage to a battery although if only a few weeks old you might try to recondition it with a reconditioning charger.

I have a Ford Mustang 1998, 3.8L. My battery died, and got another one, but put it in backwards. Now, my alternator won't charge it. I had to replace the alternator also twice. I have a good alternator,...

If it was put in backwards there is a good chance you fried some ground wires, check that and all your fuses first. If the positive cable, (or any wiring for that matter), seems at all suspect then replace it, its not that expensive and is easy to replace.

Check that connections are clean and check battery voltage with a meter...If battery has less than 12v in it, likely you have a bad alternator.

2003 Ford Mustang GT Battery Light

Your alternator should power everything when engine is running. Battery is only for start up. Test voltage with a multimeter when engine is running , should be 14V or more . Any less indicates low alternator output.

Something electrical is draining battery on 1987 XJ6;

Have you checked the alternator? The alternator may not be charging the battery. With engine running, check the voltage at the battery (it should be ~14V). If it's less than that, your battery won't charge properly. You can take your alternator to auto store to have it load tested also to be sure. Sometime alternator issues don't show up until it gets hot. Defective alternators have also been known to drain the battery after the car has stopped.

Battery light wont go off

somewhere you have a intermittent open, wish i had wiring diagrams in front of me, this alternator will tell you if it is not working right through the instrument cluster. need to find the wiring diagram and do an ohm test of the wire, if it is broken you will need to splice in a new piece.

93 LX 5.0 replaced battery, ran fine then would not start

sounds like you have a good battery, get the car started put a voltmeter to wire connected to the back of your alternator. if you have at least 13.25 volts you have a good unit if any lower replace the alternator
the click sound you are hearing comes from your relay it is getting low voltage from the battery. because the battery has no juice caused by a bad alternator

hope to help shack
