Question about 1999 Dodge Intrepid
Not an expert, but had this problem recently and it was a $17 sensor that had to be replaced in the transmission. Get someone at a parts store to hook you up to a computer and get the codes for you.

Could possibly be the transmission ecu. If the TCU (as it's known on some cars) Transmission Control Unit, is going bad or is bad it could cause the transmission to drive funny including irragular shifting, different gear ratios and so on. Depending on your vehicle make there may be ways to determin if its the transmission computer or not. Also double check your transmission fluid level...make sure it's at normal operating temerature and that the car is running and on level ground when u check the dip stick. Hope this helps, good luck
