There's no cabin air filter on your vehicle. What happens is dust, lint or so-on gets trapped in the evaporator core for the a/c and starts to stink over time. Ask your local parts store for a de-oderizor spray for your a/c.

There is a replaceable heppa filter ..not a fun job to do though..also try to find out why it smells funny...moisture inside A/C area? heater working ok and no vehicle overheating issues known?

I only find that the 2007 & 2008 Kia Sorento has a cabin air filter
and it is located behind the glove box. Open the glove box and remove
the side stops so the glove box can swing fully down and hang on its
hinges. That will give you access to the cabin air filter and the clips
which hold it in place. The 2003 thru 2006 Kia Sorento does not have a
cabin air filter listed in the parts manuals...so i may have been wrong about replacing it , sorry...if intake area for A/C can be cleaned with a deodorizer as erie suggests, you should be good to go ...good luck

Smell in 2009 ford edge

I have had the same smell since I owned the Edge and accidently came upon an easy cure! My mechanic put a very cheap, very thin cabin filter in, instead of the very thick allergy type that was in it. Apparently the thick filter does not allow for evaporation and mold/must grows. I prefer the kind that filters pollen, etc., but will go with this very thin one from now on. Absolutely no more weird smell and it's been two months. First time since I owned the car. It definitely was my problem. Try it!

When i stop for a while and then turn on my car again the ac smells funny . Is there something that i can do?(2009 Sonata)

I think you may need to chnge your cabin air filter if it smells like mildew or a musty type smell, its located under the hood by the windshield on those I believe.

Strange smell coming from my crhysler crossfire air con. intermittently musty smell from start up and while driving - seems to be at lower speeds. please help if possible

Firstly change your cabin filter(s) if smell still present then there is a cannistor you can buy from AC speciallists. You open the canistor, leave in footwell, close the car (windows, sunroof etc) and leave for a few hours. The can lets off a special gas that kills bacteria caused by AC. Problem solved.

Is there an a/c filter on the 1993 Honda Accord EX ?

There is no filter for the AC or heater in the 93 Accord. Air for the AC either recirculates from the passenger compartment or is drawn in through the vents below the wipers outside the car. You might try spraying something nice-smelling into those vents to see if it is drawn into the car while the AC is running, set to outside air.
Hope this is helpful.

Does this vehicle have an AC filter? i have been noting a musty smell when the AC is running and thought there may be mold in filter or lines. Thanks

yes its behind the lower center dash. you access it from the driver side. its a real bear, i would consider letting a lexus tech replace it.

2008 NEW BEETLE MUSTY SMELL FROM AC, WHERE DOES THE AC DRAIN GO THROUGH THE FIRE WALL

The drain should go through on the passenger side under the dash....you might need to replace your cabin air filter.

Air conditioning system musty smell when used

There should be a cabin filter. Call the parts store to see if they stock one for your car in particular.

Cabin filters are located in stream of the outside air flowing in. I know on a '99 Galant, you just had to take out the glove box, loosen two screws, and out she slid.

It'll be right near the blower motor, above the passenger's foot rest, behind the glove box. Simple hand tools will do it.

Be careful when pulling it out, as it may have leaves and acorns or fur all over it. Simply slide in the new filter and you're done.

You'll be surprised at how much better it'll smell, and how much harder your A/C and heat will blow without the constriction of a dirty filter.

Most cars have the cabin filters behind the glove box, but if not there, then they'll have them under the hood, on the firewall, on the passenger side. Usually inside a small black plastic box.

If your car DOESN"T have a cabin filter, then the musty smell is stuff that is sitting in the heat/ AC system. You can try spraying pine sol or Febreeze down the air intake hole for the system. Mind you, this is not the same as the air intake for your cars engine!

The air intake for the cabin filter will be on the passenger side, under the hood, most likely under a plastic cowling of sorts.

Good luck!

Ac smells

I am having the same issue. I changed the cabin air filter (Located under the passenger side dash - remove 4 small screws) and still cannot get rid of the musty / urine smell. I have tried all the "over the counter" ac unit sprays and I also took the car into a place that used some kind of a fogger inside the car.Unfortunatly, the smell returns. Let me know if you have any luck.I have tried all the recomendations such as, Lysol, bleach, fogger and still nothing. I believe the AC unit needs to be exposed and cleaned before the problem is resolved.Good luck!

AC-Smells

Have you replaced the a/c air filter under the dashboard? If not get one from the dealer or even a napa (napa part # is wix 24902) The filter is under the glove box. 4 eight millimeter screws hold the cover in place. You will be quite surprised at the quantity of mung these filters collect. I replace mine every two years regardless.
