2001 GMC Jimmy Starting Problem

I've had my 2001 Jimmy for about 4 months & it has continually had this nagging starting problem. When I turn the key to start nothing engages. I've been told it could be the park/neutral switch in either the shift lever or the ignition. Early on it did this about every 5th time I started it but now it's getting to be about every other time. When the starter does hit it starts right off & runs great. I did check the battery & terminals and they seem to be OK. When I turn the steering wheel, hit the brake, run it thru the gears, etc. sometimes it has helped but I have found nothing consistent.

Sounds like a bad ingition switch. When you turn the key it pushes a rod that goes down the steering colum. The switch is located there. It's a pretty simple fix.

Sounds like you have a bad ignition switch, not the lock cylinder but the switch itself. Electrical power should continue to go to the gauges and to the ignition module even with the key in the Start position.

Over past few weeks my 01 gmc jimmy has been starting after 3-4 times of trying. Sat morning it quit starting and hasn't started since.have replaced the icm, fuel pressure regulator, coil

check for a spark and the fuel pressure on the fuel rail here you will find a tyre valve with a plastic cover ,you can use one of them old fashioned tyre pressure things that push out with the air pressure but it will work on the fuel as well ,should be 55lbs

Can't turn key to start car on 2001 jimmy

Have you tried to turn the stearing wheel side to side while turning the key? Sometimes the wheel gets bumped and it locks with the key in the ignition and the added tension won't alow you to turn key unless you turn the wheel from one side to the other.

2001 gmc jimmy not starting

Did they do a fuel pressure pressure test to determine that its fuel pump? And if so what was the p.s.i.?It should be around 55 to 60 p.s.i. a few pounds under 55 p.s.i. Pump needs replaced, Your shop should have chk. this when it was there the first time. Did they by chance chg. the fuel filter, that can hinder it from starting too.
