Question about 2005 Ford Crown Victoria

EATC Heater Blower Inoperative

Just noticed that the fan blower is not working, neither in auto or manual fan modes. No fuses blown under the steering wheel. All digital displays working and am able to adjust temperature and move between modes OK

    Fan blower works on max setting only. Does not work on other speeds.

I would suspect the blower resistor based on your description. The resistor is located under the hood on this vehicle

Pinpoint Test Q: The Blower Motor Does Not Operate Correctly - EATC
Normal Operation Under normal operation, the blower motor control module receives a 1-2 volt signal from the EATC module through circuit CH218 (GN/VT) to determine the desired blower motor speed. The EATC module receives a feedback voltage from the blower motor control module through circuit VH219 (GY) to determine actual blower motor speed. When the highest blower motor setting is selected, the EATC module sends 12 volts to the blower control module through circuit CH217 (BN).
    Possible Causes
  • An open, short to voltage, ground or together in circuits CH218 (GN/VT), VH219 (GY) or circuit CH217 (BN)
  • Blower motor control module
  • EATC module
  • If automatic HVAC system i would suspect Blower motor control module .

Blower motor only works on high position both for air and heater , was working fine until a week ago , checked fuses they seem ok help !


you have a bad blower motor resistor. They are nomally close to the blower motor on the passenger side under the dash. If you follow the wires from the blower motor it should lead you right to it.

Where is the blower motor? heater in car dosent blow. not under hood, cant get through glover compartment.


This work for 1998 Buick Century 3.1L SFI OHV 6cyl; the blower motor is a variable speed motor. The higher the voltage applied to the motor, the faster the speed. Depending on the HVAC (Heater Ventilation Air Conditioning) option installed in the vehicle, blower speed control could be through a set of resistors or through a solid-state blower motor control module.

In general, this system is reliable. Because so many of the control operations are electronic, special diagnostic equipment really should be used for system diagnostics and check-out. An authorized technician using a scan tool can most quickly locate HVAC problems.

An inoperative blower motor could be caused by the following:

* Blown fuse(s). The fuse should be replaced. There may be both a LOW BLOWER and HIGH BLOWER fuse. Some models may also call it the HVAC fuse. Even the RADIO fuse is used in some applications. Check them all. If a fuse is blown there may be a short to ground in one of the power supply circuits.
* Open Circuit. Check the circuit between the ignition switch and the blower motor, and the blower motor ground circuit. Repair as necessary. * Faulty blower switch. A faulty blower switch should be replaced. * Most heater blower circuits also include a blower motor relay (look in the underdash convenience center), as well as a blow motor resistor. These items should be checked especially if the blower runs in one or two speeds, but not all speeds selected.

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. The blower motor is located on the passenger side of the vehicle, under the instrument panel. Remove the right side sound insulator (trim panel) by removing the retainers and disconnecting the courtesy lamp.
  3. Detach the blower motor electrical connector. Some applications may have cooling hose to the motor which should be disconnected.

  1. Unfasten the blower motor mounting screws, then remove the blower motor from the vehicle.
  2. If the blower motor fan (also called a 'squirrel cage') must be replaced, use the following procedure:
NOTE Do not hammer on the motor to remove or install the fan. Do not apply force to the motor housing to seat the fan on the motor, or motor/shaft bearing damage could result. Do not apply pressure to the fan rim. Be sure the correct replacement part is used.
  1. Remove the metal star clip retaining the fan cage to the motor shaft.
  2. Remove the fan by pulling straight out.
To install:
  1. If removed, install the blower motor fan, as follows:
    1. Install the replacement fan cage onto the motor shaft.
    2. Adjust the fan cage to get a clearance of 0.30 inch (7.5mm) to the motor mount plate.
  2. Install the remaining components in the reverse of the removal procedure. Make sure the electrical connection is secure. Tighten the motor screws to 14 ft. lbs. (20 Nm).
  3. Connect the negative battery cable, then test the blower motor for proper operations

My 2004 grand marque's blower motor stoped working is it the blower motor relay or the resister?


If 1, 2 & 3rd speed not working, it is resistor (assuming you don't have EATC). High speed will work if fuse is ok and resistor is burned.

2002 f150 heater blower quit working all of a sudden. fuses check out okay. no juice at switch plug with the key on.


The cab fuse panel, fuse #22 is only hot in the run position, and this is the white w/ violet stripe wire at the connector on the HVAC panel on the manual temp ( vs the EATC HVAC ).

The switch in any of the positions, powers the Brown w/ Orange stripe wire wire to the blower relay ( by the flasher in the relay block under the dash by the steering wheel column, usually covered in black tape from the factory ).

The blower relay powers the blower motor resistor, to know what speed to run at, this is powered from the engine fuse panel, fuse #105 ( 40A ).

If you do not have power on the white w/ violet stripe wire at the back of the HVAC switch panel, you need to meter both sides of fuse #22, to confirm power is through the fuse.

Heater does not work


Check heater fuse.
If fuse good - could be a failure of the blower fan motor or blower control switch.
If fuse bad - bad blower fan motor could have blown the fuse.
DO: check fuse, then blower motor.

I'd expect your blower resistor to be good - when they fail, the blower only will work on HIGH setting.

The fan for the interior heat/cool only works on high.


Manual temp controls, or EATC (electronic automatic temp control) ? The manual climate control will have a blower motor resistor, and the EATC will have a fan speed controller... Mounted in close to the same area (depending on which system you have) only the resistor optioned would be installed into the heat A/C plenum chamber, and the EATC fan controller would be mounted external to the chamber.

The EATC optioned units have a fan/blower 'speed controller' (a module) not the same as your temp control/fan selection assembly.. The blower resistor will be mounted right next to the blower motor.. When you remove it, look at the coils/windings and you'll see a small 'diode' looking bullet shaped unit bridging the terminals.. That's the thermal limiter and most times they burn out internal.. Use a test lead (or wire) and clip it to both the in/out of the thermal unit.. You should have all your fan speeds back.. Do replace the unit though if it proves to be bad, and goes around $17.00 at the dealer of Auto Zone and they can give you the step by step instructions to getting the job done with common tools. My heater fan quit working. I don't know if the problem is with the fan or the electrical system (fuse?).


First place to check is fuse box. Look at F-20. It is under the dash, left of the steering wheel.

A/c , heater blower not working but a/c & heater are working


No fuse. Newer vehicles have BCM Body Control Modules. Everything is computer controlled. Take it to a shop.

2001 Merc Marq automatic ac blower motor stopped working. I wired blower directly to battery with a fused switch. This has worked for past 9 months----but, now the compressor stays on when the switch is...


check the fuses and blower motor resister first. Some systems don't have resisters. Use blower motor speed control instead.

Electronic Automatic Temperature Control Module Self-Test
  • The EATC module self-test will not detect concerns associated with data link messages like engine coolant temperature or vehicle speed signals. A diagnostic tool must be used to retrieve these concerns.
  • The EATC module self-test will detect concerns in the system control functions and will display hard diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) in addition to intermittent diagnostic trouble codes for concerns that occur during system operation. The vehicle interior temperature should be between 4° and 32°C (40° and 90°F) when carrying out the self-test. If the temperatures are not within the specified ranges, false in-car temperature sensor DTCs will be displayed.
  • The self-test can be initiated at any time. Normal operation of the system stops when the self-test is activated.
  • To enter the self-test, press the OFF and FLOOR buttons simultaneously and then press the AUTOMATIC button within two seconds. The display will show a pulse tracer going around the center of the display window. The test may run as long as 30 seconds. Record all DTCs displayed.
  • If any DTCs appear during the self-test, follow the diagnostics procedure given under ACTION for each DTC given.
  • If a condition exists but no DTCs appear during the self-test, refer to the Symptom Chart Condition: The EATC System Is Inoperative, Intermittent or Improper Operation.
  • To exit self-test and retain all intermittent DTCs, push the blue (cooler) button. The control will exit self-test, retain all intermittent diagnostic trouble codes and then turn OFF (display blank).
  • To exit the self-test and clear all DTCs, press the DEFROST button. The vacuum fluorescent display window will show 888 and all function symbols for one second. Then, the EATC control assembly will turn OFF (display blank) and all DTCs will be cleared.
  • Always exit the self-test before powering the system down (system turned OFF).
  • Intermittent DTCs will be deleted after 80 ignition switch ON cycles after the intermittent condition occurs.
