I have a 1988 Mazda 626 that won't start in damp weather, especially in the morning. But by the afternoon when the weather has warmed a bit it starts instantly. I pulled a cable off one spark plug and got a strong orange spark while my wife cranked the engine. Could it be the fuel system?

My 1994 Corolla has the same problem: it woun't start in dump/wet weather.

If it is dry or cold out it runs fine. If its raining it runs rough or won't run at all.

Replace the ignition coil under the distributor cap. What you have is a hairline crack in it, and, when it is damp, the spark arcs out of the crack to ground, no spark. This is a VERY common problem with older Camrys. Take the coil off, and look at it real closely. You will see black marks on it, from the crack. I am very sure that this will eliminate your problem. Thanks for choosing FixYa!

As for the rough or slow cranking when you have wet weather it sounds like the starter brushes and or some other problems inside of the starter. You can pull that and take it to most parts stores and they can check it for you. As for the ignition problem I would say to go ahead and replace the wires and plugs as well making sure to by top of the line 8mm wires A/C Delco is a great brand. I don't know where you have been buying your caps and rotors but I have seen this problem happen when people buy these parts from AutoZone so if that is where you are getting yours I would recommend you go to Napa auto parts or Oreilys. And again buy only top of the line, it cost more but they last so much longer. Good luck.

I put my car up 4 the winter it was running great.... I pulled it out it was running great.... it rained real bad and a lot of moisture it would start for 3 months.... then it started back up running great...

Check spark plug wires and ignition parts, try using WD-40 type of moisture remover. Ignition coils tend to react to moisture if it gets inside.

Stalls when accelerating in wet weather

I dont use this word much but im Assumeing that YOUR mechanic scanned the computer and checked the coolant sensor or other possible causes,Ive ran across this many times before so bare with me,Have your mechanic try a known good Airflow meter and dont forget to check the main airboot for rips, cracks or tears in the seams, gotta inspect all the areas where it is accordianed for flexibility, another one is moisture penetrating into the distributor cap,got more if ya need them hope this helped let me know have a good day Darrell

Just bought this 2002 Camry. First snow and the front brake locked and wouldn't stop the car. Took it for service, but they couldn't find anything wrong with the brakes. Since then the same thing happened...

I'd have them re-check the calipers, especially the piston boots for cracks, or rips where moisture could enter and then freeze, and lube slides with proper grease, and perform a fluid flush. Moisture may have got in to fluid somehow and contaminated it.

1500 chevy suburban 5.7 won't start in rain

Time for a complete tune up, this time put a distributor cap on too, plugs wires cap rotor, and use quality parts. what you got here is condensation getting under dist. cap most likely because cap has a hairline crack in it.

Toyota wont start in wet weather

Your ignition coil has a hairline crack in it. Replace it. It is under the distributor cap. Common failure.
