I have the same problem. Had to take it on the trailer to the dealer after trying all fixes to shut off the alarm that were in the manual and suggestions from the dealer. It sat there all night and started just fine for them the next day! UGGGH!

Did you find a solution to this problem?

I have had the same trouble with my 1998 Dodge Caravan, so has my neighbor on both of his caravan vans and We have found that if we slap down on the dash above the temperature gauge it will work just fine.

we both lose speedometer and fuel guages too! Same fix

about once a month I will have to slap it, to get my guages back, and stop the alarm.

I believe it is a bad soldiering connection in the dash but it is not worth chasing it down when I can get by without it.

when the post said the van worked fine after being towed it is because the connection was made while the van was jostled around being loaded and transported

Same problem starts and shuts off in two to three seconds. Instruments not working when this happens as if something is shutting the system down.

After long time that i have to visit this site, i found out that many of you
have now my old problems with the electrics and the electronics of the same van 1998,dodge caravan.
so the solusion is hinding under the ****.
1) open the engine door cover
2)at the right up, next to the battery is a black box 30-35 cm long and 10 cm wide
and has a cover were if you open you find many small quadrands and
secure plastic:ambers from 10 to 40amp.in collors.
a) if you like to fix it, you have to unskrew the all box to clear the conections inside.
b)shake it or move it a bit or hit it a bit to reconect.
you open it and shake by up and down side.with your hands.
this will bring back the electrisity in the instuments panel and
you can start again
I hope that was helpfull to you.

2009 dodge grand caravan 3.8l. remote starts vehicle then shuts down after 5 seconds whats the solution

sounds like your factory alarm is not working with the remote starter. it happens a lot with the new cars. check the BCM that runs the factory alarm.

My instument panel not working

The IP in this van is a computer module, that is to say it is not like older panels that are just mechanical. You Must remove the panel and have it rebuilt by a factory approved repair center. You can find them on the Internet, just google Dodge instrument cluster repair. The is a common complaint for Dodge and Chrysler mini vans,.

I just bought a 1998 caravan dodge and it appears when i used the key to unlock doors, it doesnt look like the unlocked switch is working ,when i tried to start the car the alarm set came on and shut down...

Sounds like the switch inside the drivers door is not working to disarm it. Lock and unlock the passeger side door with the key and do the same with the gate on the back of the van and be sure to use the key to do it. this should disarm the alarm but you will have to get the switch inside the door fixed.

1998 dodge van speed odometer and rpm just stopped working?

I had a grand caravan that All of the console stuff stopped working, I'd give the top of the dash a bang with the palm of my hand and theywould come back on. I always thought it was a loose connection, but sold the van without fixing it.

AC & Rear wiper switch button indicator lights blink

The procedure for re-setting the HVAC control panel on a 1998 Dodge Grand Caravan follows:
With ignition on but not running
1. turn knob to air vents
2. turn fan knob to ON
3. temperature setting on COLD (2X) {I have dual temp controls}
4. hold top(rear wiper) and bottom (rear wiper with wash) buttons pressing down together until all the buttons cycle through (this will require 1 to 2 minutes of continuous pressing)
I learned this from a very helpful local Dodge service adviser
