Check for spark on cyl 2. Auto parts stores sell a spark tester. th?id=hn.608054987065067225&pid=15.1&h=205&w=160
Unplug the wire from the sparkplug, insert the tester into the wire, clamp onto metal somewhere nearby. Then, have someone crank the engine. You should see a spark. If not, then your ignition wire or coilpack is bad. If there is spark, check the fuel pressure with a tester, fuel injector by checking ohms on injector tabs, and then compression with a compression tester.

96 nissan altima automatic. Wont start I turn the key and get nithung. Have piwer to the radio windoes etc but simpke.wont even begi. To turn

Hi there:Sound like a starter problem, also check battery charge. Spark, fuel and compression... all three of these are tested when the engine is being cranked over. There are two way of checking for fuel. Fuel pressure and fuel trigger. Both are very important and must be present for the engine to start. Fuel pressure is self explanatory. You just hook up the gage and see what the reading is. Fuel trigger is check with a noid light. The injector gets unplugged and the noid light gets plugged in to the injector clip. With the engine cranking over, this light must blink. This is the signal to the injectors from the computer. You can have all the fuel pressure in the world, but it wont matter if the injector is not pulsing gas into the cylinder like it should.

Compression tester, spark tester, fuel pressure gage and noid light are all accessible at your local auto store. All three tests play a very important part in diagnosing a no start condition. Be extremely careful when doing these tests.

Hope this helps; also keep in mind that your feedback is important and I`ll appreciate your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment about this answer.

Thank you for using FixYa, have a nice day.

Car won't start

You will have to pinpoint what the engine is missing...
- Spark
- Fuel
- Compression

Won't start, get spark & fuel.

that is very simple, have your battery test reading around 12. 4 + vdc appx . next buy new sparkplugs. if still doesnt work, check your sparkplug cables with a tester set to any value like 1 x 10 ohms , put the pin on each opposite sides, if you see deflection on the meter, it is good, but not, buy new cable. try starting your car first before jumping each options. 3rd option clean or get new distributor cap. before buying rotor

2001 gti won't start, it cranks.

the first thing to do is find out whats missing, you will need to see if it has fuel going to the engine, this is done with a fuel pressure gauge, then you need to check for spark, remove a sparkplug wire from a sparkplug and with a spark tester check for spark, there could be a loss of spark or fuel and last thing may be a broken timing belt.

98 tahoe has new starter, new fuel pump, new alternator, and does not start the battery is also new. what should i do next?

Check if there is spark to each cylinder. If not, check crank shaft position sensor if no spark at all. If spark in some cylinders but not all, then check coil packs.

If spark is good, check that you have sufficient fuel pressure. You can use a fuel pressure tester or place a rag over the fuel pressure test port on the fuel rail, press in on the valve and see if there is pressure in the fuel rail. A tester would be more accurate.

My 96 blazer wont start it just cranks but wont start?

A typical engine needs mostly just gas and spark to run (besides air of course)
Sounds like the engine is not getting one or the other.

Fuel goes from fuel pump, to filter, to fuel pressure regulator, to fuel rail, to injectors.
You can test for fuel pressure with key on, at the fuel rail. There will be a test port on the rail that you can put a rag on top and push in the valve to see if there is pressure. (or use pressure tester)
If there is no pressure, check that fuel pump relay is working. (you can use an ohmmeter on relay to see if there is resistance). You can also test power to relay and to the pump with a voltmeter to see if pump is getting power. Or turn key to ON position and listen to see if you hear the pump turn on.

If you have no spark to any cylcinders, the crank shaft position sensor may be faulty which is very common in GM vehicles.

You can use an ohmmeter to test the sensor itself.
You can also get a spark plug tester to see if there is spark to each cylinder.
You can also remove one spark plug, plug back into plug wire, lay on top of engine so spark plug diode is 1/4" away from metal surface. Have someone else turn engine over while you look for spark. Do this to each cylinder.
