Wastegate bypass regulator valve

We accelerate the car, but it wont advance, the shop said the code the computer gives is # 16618, i have try to buy the part but cant find where to, maybe you can help me, than you

    I went to another shop, and the mechanic find a low level oil in the gear box, that help to get a better speed, but they dont know how much oil should be added.

I would say that your turbo is over boosting,variable vain turbos do have this problem with carbon build up,you can take of the variable vain actuator rod and try to work it,if it feels really notchy then you turbo is u/s and not the n75 valve,let me have more details of your car and i will be able to help,if you live in the uk near canterbury i will help you by looking at it

16618 - Boost Pressure Regulation: Limit Exceeded (Overboost Condition)

It could be the N75 valve or a Mass Air Flow sensor.

Check engine codes for a 1997 stratus the codes coming up are 12 31 and 55

12 Recently disconnected the battery (always stored)
55 End test.

CODE 31... depending on the model, code 31 can refer to two different systems. Please choose from one of the above links for specific information on each system.

Wastegate Solenoid Circuit Error
The ECM regulates turbocharger boost by opening and closing the "wastegate" as necessary. (The wastegate is a vacuum operated bypass valve that limits the ability of the turbo to provide boost.) The Wastegate Solenoid regulates the vacuum supply to the wastegate for proper operation.

Fault Code Description
  • 31 - Wastegate Solenoid circuit error
  • Lack of power or engine "ping" due to overboost by the turbocharger
Common Problems
  • The wastegate solenoid would be the most common cause for code 31 to set
  • Code 31 does not indicate a problem with the turbocharger or wastegate

Gear Position Switch (PRNDL) Error The Gear Position switch tells the ECM which position the shifter is in. The ECM will use this information to inhibit starter operation, change the transmission shift pattern as necessary, and provide the information for the electronic shift indicator display on the dash.

Fault Code Description
  • 31 - Gear Position switch (PRNDL) error
  • Engine may not crank over in Park or Neutral
  • Electronic shift indicator may flash
Common Problems
A maladjusted or failed Gear Position switch would be the most common cause for a code 31

The wastegate is a valve that regulates the ammount of boost that you turbocharger produces. The wastegate opens to release boost pressure.
This valve is electronicly controlled based on inputs to the onboard computer.

It is probably either the N75 valve(Diverter Valve) or the wastegate actuator. Usually a significant boost leak will set a DTC, still check all hoses and clamps.

A bad wastegate actuator or flap would cause no boost but not necessarily the air-sound.

Recommended special tools and equipment e.g.:
- VAG1526 multimeter or VAG1715 multimeter
- VAG1594 connector test kit
Test sequence
- Switch ignition off.
- Disconnect connector at solenoid valve for boost pressure regulation.

If specified value is not obtained:
- Replace Wastegate Bypass Regulator Valve -N75-.

Valve opens between connection to intake manifold and connection to deceleration shut-off valve with no voltage. Connection to vacuum
reservoir is closed.
Test sequence
- Switch ignition off.
- Disconnect connector from Recirculating valve for turbocharger -N249-.

Specified value: 27...30 Ohm
If specified value is not obtained:
- Replace Recirculating valve for turbocharger -N249-.
If specified values are obtained:
- Connect test box to control module wiring harness, connect test box for wiring test.

Wire resistance: max: 1.5 Ohm
- Also check the wire for short circuit to B+ and Ground (GND).
If no malfunctions are found in wire:
- Check wire between 2-pin connector terminal 1 and the Fuel Pump (FP) Relay -J17- for open circuit according to wiring diagram.
Wire resistance: max: 1.5 Ohm
If no malfunctions are found in wires:
- Replace Engine Control Module (ECM).


To test the wastegate, locate the wastegate linkage rod and verify that there is no play and that it is closed. You can apply compressed air to the actuator to see if it opens and closes. (not more than 30 psi)

Turbo not working properly, it seems to only go so far then you can hear air rushing out

check the wastegate vacuum diaphragm+hose and wastegate bypass regulator valve and boost pressure recirculation valve.make all hoses is tight.if you losing power remove the turbo check to make sure turbine is turning.if its not spinning fast you will hear air noise.hitting turbine blades.

2004.5 dodge 3500 wastegate error code

A wastegate is a valve that diverts exhaust gases away from the turbine wheel in a turbocharged engine system. Diversion of exhaust gases regulates the turbine speed, which in turn regulates the rotating speed of the compressor. The primary function of the wastegate is to regulate the maximum boost pressure in turbocharger systems, to protect the engine and the turbocharger.

It is not really a minor thing. It may not cause a major problem, but you are very likely loosing power and fuel mileage because of it.
