Question about 1998 Dodge Grand Caravan
I just replaced the starter on my 98 Grand Caravan and now there is a metallic rattling/buzzing noise while the car is running. What could be causing this and is the car safe to drive in this condition?
You need to remove the starter and check the pinion gear. Sounds as if there is a shim missing, which will cause the pinion gear to hit the ring gear, causing noise, and considerable damage to both. Make sure the gears are all good. Another possibility is if you bought a rebuilt starter from autozone or somebody like that , the pinion stop wasn't installed, or the wrong one was installed, which will cause the starter gear to go to far out and get stuck, hitting the ring gear.
