Speedometer needle keeps dropping durning journey

Same problem on my daughters car. internittently the needle is either sluggish or drops to zero. I have not looked at the cable yet..

  • jperera May 12, 2009

Same problem. I wondering if it is the speed sensor or the instrument cluster. There are stepper motors behind each needle. The dealer wants to replace the cluster at the tune of $600.00. but I can get a stepper motor online for about 10.00. Anyone ever done this repair without having to calibrate the Speedo?

Turn signals on 2001 Chrysler Town & Country cause dash lights to come on and speedometer & odometer quit working

I would say its probably a short or a ground problem at the turn switch or a wire in that area. you need a test light and probably a multi meater and some nohow a ground or wireing problem can even drive a master teck crasy.

2002 ford focus 1.4l ,73000mls,speedometer problem.

it is the vss (vehicle speed sensor). i had the same problem, cost £35 for sensor and clip. its behind the gearbox. very awkward job but can be done yourself. the hardest part is getting the pin out, you need a very good pair of molegrips and a lot of patience.

1997 Geo Metro speedometer and odometer do not work

Let me guess, it goes up to about 30, stays there, and if you go faster (past what would be the halfway point of your speedometer) it starts dropping below 30. It sounds like the type of speedometer that uses two magnetic cores at 90 degrees to each other, and one has gone out.

Troubleshooting and repair should be similar to this: http://www.fieros.de/en/articles/speedo.html

Speedometer Needle for Hyundai 2004 Accent

If your transmission fluid level is okay, then you need a new speedometer cable. Its not terribly difficult to replace, but it does require you to pull the instrument cluster. A local Hyundai dealership might be willing to photocopy the specific speedometer cable replacement instructions out of the 2004 Accent shop manual.
